i have some altec lansing speakers, forget the model number, but 4 speakers and a sub.

everything sounds perfectly fine until i put in a cd, and then half my speakers stop playing and the sound quality sounds like trash.

any ideas?

id check your connections on the audio in and digital audio in on your sb live card.

If its only when there is a CD it is almost definately something with that connection. I have had problems with the digital out/in on my Live 5.1 to my dvdrom drive, so i switched it to analog without any more trouble. Give that a try if you are using the digital ports. Also, in the volume control panel, try muting the digital sound, see if that helps. Good luck.

Did you check the digital/analog audio cables yet? The ones that go from the card to the CD/DVD Drive? I think that gets my vote as the culprit still. If its only CD related and your CD audio volume settings are not any different than your other volume settings, I say its the cable. As I said same thing happened to me with that same sound card and it was because of the cable.
