There's not too much on this board about Sceptre X9G-Gamer LCD and I received one yesterday so I thought I would do a quick review.

I purchased this from UBID for $305 plus $25 shipping. I don't know if they will have any more of these for sale soon but it normally sells for between $350 and $400 on the internet.

The monitor was delivered via FedEx in perfect condition. My son (who is three) managed to get to the box before anyone else, proceeded to stab the box with a small screw driver until the box looked like swiss cheese. Luckily for me and him he stabbed the monitor in the back and managed to scratch the back up pretty good but the screen was never touched.

The specs on the monitor are as follows:
Panel Type: TFT Active Matrix
19 inch
12 ms response time
Input connections (DVI, Analog, S-Video, Composite)
Number of Colors 16.7 million (this is debatable)
Contrast Ratio 500:1
View Angle 140/140

Besides the price what really sold me on this was the S-Video connection. I have not tried it yet, but I should be able to connect my XBox directly into the monitor without any special adapters. I guess I could also use this as a TV in the kitchen when I'm done with it.

The first thing I did was to test for dead pixels and I found none. I did need to adjust the contrast/gamma settings on my video card until I found a setting that I can live with. Currently it is a little too bright and I'm sure I need to continue to tweak it a bit. If anyone does have one of these I would appreciate it if you could share your settings. The colors are extremely vibrant and I really can tell a difference between this monitor and my old Sony Trinitron 19 inch. I played some Battlefield Vietnam, WOW and Doom3 and I did not notice any ghosting. I did not notice any ghosting while rapidly moving the cursor either. The viewing angles are acceptable if you are sitting in front of the monitor. Viewing directly from the side and the screen does get a noticable brown tint. Text is crisp and easy to read on this monitor and I saw none of the problems that have been mentioned with other LCD's.

Every site that lists this monitor with it's max color rating lists it at 16.7 million colors and not 16.2 million. Many people have commented before that 16.2 million is the norm with a TFT panel. All current high speed TFT panels are 6 bit ones and therefore are simulating those 16.2 millon colors using dithering. I checked the manual and it also states 16.7 million colors. So, it's probably 16.2 million and that is an exageration anyway but unless you do alot of photo work it's probably not worth mentioning. I did watch a DVD (Shark Tales) and I did not notice any obvious problem with the image. I did need to increase the resolution to the max in order for the DVD to play properly without quality problems.

I know that there are alot of people on this board that own the L90D+ and I was certain that I was going to be one of them as well. I never would have purchased one if it was not for the great price but I think it is a very good monitor that for whatever reason is being overlooked. Anyway, I'm happy with this monitor and I would recommend it to anyone who is a gamer.
