Recently I have been noticing areas of "tearing" for lack of better word, on my screen while running windows 98. It goes away if I right click on the desktop and choose the refresh option to refresh the screen. Is this a possible sign that either my video card and/or monitor is near to die. Aside from this appearing now and then, my screen is as sharp as ever. Even at the corners. I only notice this while running 2D applications and not while playing 3D games. I don't believe it is a driver issue since I have recently gone from using Nvidia 6.50 reference to the much more bug free 7.58 beta drivers for my Asus Gforce256 SDR video card. ???

Before scrapping your card, try the more newer detonators, 10.xx, 11.xx & 12.xx. If that doesn't solve your problem, I'd say it's something to do with the RAMDAC in the card. I think. I find it quite odd that your 3D display doesn't get corrupted.
