Hi all

i got my whole i7 build parts this week (mobo, case, gpu, cpu etc) and went to start building the new PC, then i realized one part is missing the Scythe Mugen 2 heatsink, it will be now shipped to me and i should receive it in 3 weeks.

now my options are:
1.build the i7 PC and use the stock heatsink for now
2.wait till i get this massive heatsinkin 3 weeks and build the pc then.

my question is how much hassle is it to install the new HS ina few weeks time after the whole thing is built and running? should i take the mobo apart from the case? i don't really want to have to dismount the whole thing in 3 weeks as i am going to try and build it in an optimized way with all the wiring and once its done it will be a pain to redo it (i'm too lazy )

by the way my case is the Antec 900 and Mobo is Gigabyte EX58-UDR3 LGA1366.

Thanks

Yes, you will need to remove the motherboard if you install it with the stock cooler and then switch to the Mugen 2 later. This is because you will have to access the underside of the motherboard to release the pushpins on the stock cooler. Besides labor, the other issue is the risk of damaging motherboard components while installing/removing it multiple times. Those are the issues as I see them. Now the choice is yours.
