Hey guys. I have 4 Barracudas in my comp and when any of them are writing/reading it is very noisy for me. I guess it is a normal clicking but I dont like it. I recently got a 250gb WD SATAII and it is SO quiet compared to the Seagates. Are the Seagate 7200.7 normally noisy. If so, Im thinking about selling them and replacing them with WDs so LMK if anyone is interested in them.

theres certain series of the seagates that are literally silent and others that are noisy... i know that my 80gb 7200.9 is utterly silent wile idiling and seeking... there is no difference between the 2... i also have a 80gb 7200.7 that is almost the same as the 80gb 7200.9 but the 7200.7 is a lil louder during seeks.

I also have a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 60GB that is the same as the 80gb 7200.9... utterly silent... now all of the above drives are IDE drives... i also have 2 80gb sata 7200.7's in raid 0 and they are quite loud during seeks... my friend also has a 250gb sata 7200.7 that is a loud seeker too... and my 2 250gb 7200.10 perp sata 2 drives are semi loud while seeking but not bad at all...

So what im saying is that some seagates are just louder than others even of the same series its weird but if i wanted a silent drive i would go with a 7200.9... PLUS the 80gb 7200.9 has an AMAZING density... almost that of the perpindicular 7200.10's... it will pull 63.2MB/s average sequential from a single IDE drive... quite amazing considering a old 10k rpm 8mb chache raptor does about the same average sequential.

i took a look at ur siggy... wow you gotta lot of 160gb 7200.7 sata... yes thoes drives are going to be loud seekers.
