I found those 2 drives, the seagate 1TB is 50% (49$) off with 2 years warranty and the WD 1TB is 109$ with 5 years warranty. Can anybody recommend me which one would be the best buy? Oh and I can also buy an extra warranty from https://www.myserviceplan.com/ for the seagate drive, either 6$ for an extra year after the manucfaturer's warranty expires or 12$ for 2 years.

Seagate:

You cant beat that price of $49. I'm hoping you got one as it looks like they are out of stock now.

As far as the brand choice, I prefer WD, but I'll take seagate any day for half the price.

With the extra 3rd party warranty? Don't worry they restock pretty often.

What will you be using the drive for? Will you be booting from it, or is it strictly for storage?

I was planning to build a dedicated network storage PC and a small private cloud server so yeah storage. If I don't use it/them for that purpose it'll end up in my next gamiing rig.

For storage applications I highly recomend WD green drives, way lower heat and power. But still I have to say, if you can get the seagate for half the price then its a no brainer.

Also I should add, warranties are great, but they wont save your data. Just something to think about.

They don't, but they do save my hard-earned cash. And a RAID 1 of two of those guys is going to solve that problem. :p

I'll look back if they're DOA but purolator seems to do a good job since I haven't heard any of my friends complaining about receiving DOA HDDs, including my Bro's Hitachi.

Haven't had any issues with my brother's big 1.5TB so far. Been around a year and it's dead silent, just like the one that came with my old gateway. Oooh, found an external seagate 1TB 69,99$ + free shipping. I love the black friday preview ^^

Ive built a few media servers over the past couple of years. WD greens seems to hold up the best for me so far. But my own current home server has Seagate 4T drives I pulled out of external enclosures(which are no longer sold). Ive had bad experiences in the past with seagate, but for now they seem to be working great.
