I just got a brand a seagate 80gb 7200 and when I plug it in and turn on the computer evrything comes on for a split second and then turns off. The cathodes and leds blink 3 times really fast when it does these, so its like turn on, blink 3 times fast turns off. It didnt short out before I changed the jumper from something to Master then to Cable select. But it would never recognize on the mobo before so Im thinking it may have been DOA.

Edit- Forgot to add that I know its the HD because ive unplugged everything else and it does it and when verything plugs i it does it then when i unplug the HD it doesnt do it so its definetly the HD.

...so you're posting to tell us you had to RMA your drive?

Cool.

So glad I don't have to deal with PATA jumpers ('cept on my optical drives :mad)

No. Im wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what you might have done to fix it before I RMA it.
