I was talking to my old boss who I used to work in a bar last year for and she was telling me about a local bar that had been burgled. She said that the security camera failed to record and on recent video she said the quality wasn't that good.

Cameras couldn't record with low light, the zoom function was rubbish, picture quality on the monitors was also rubbish. She said what would be the best security system with cameras, I suggested that nowadays you cam have a few cameras here and there and have them hooked-up to a network and a PC and record to Disc or HDD whichever. You could get high quality cameras http://www.broadbandstuff.co.uk/index.php?cPath=136&osCsid=750bf5a90be281595a0075c1cd093ae0 (was thinking of AXIS 221 Day & Night Network Camera and below) and the security system would be a lot better along with the right alarm etc.

Now as I walked away from our conversation it got me thinking the cameras from the link how would 1 be able to create such a network. Many thanks in advanced if anyone can help it's just got me really intrested on how to build 1.

It is all in the software. You just need to find software that supports the number of cameras needed, and has options you need. After that it is pretty much a matter of running some wire and setting up a PC to record everything.

Is that all WOW I thought it would require quite a lot of hardware hmmmm I'll look out for the right software cause I think she might be getting back into managing a bar again.

With AXIS cameras (the only ones I have even remote experience with), it pretty much boils down to having the cameas you want and the software to control them all. Pretty simple from what I've seen.
