SETI-like analysis programs?

Does anyone know if there are programs that you can use that will weed out un-necessary wavelengths of sound from, say, music files, or any other types of files? I know that the SETI program has some method of doing this, and i'm doing some research project where this kind of technology would be useful. If anyone has heard of any programs, regardless of operating system, let me know asap.. thx in advance
