Yeah, so they could kill it and push their less efficient Itaniums. Alpha was at air-cooled 1Ghz over 2 years ago, IIRC.

We have one of the Itanium CPU's throwing errors after 3 days of crunching. I hope Intel takes a beating on these things.

Actually I think Intel bought them so they could use their technology. If you can't beat them, join them, or buy them out. I really see no future for any incarnation of the itanium.

I think it's conceivable that IBM could by them out if they saw a few rough quarters, but on the flip side Intel maintains a better cash position than IBM, or at least they used to, but I haven't kept up with them since they went on their little spending spree. I hate to admit but I'm a large share holder.

intel isnt an evil empire like microsoft. intel makes some impressive products but they have made some serious pr blunders and misrepresentations and i think its catching up with them. as far as who has more cash flow ibm is worth more in just real estate than intel is in its entirety but i havent got a clue who has the advantage cash wise. all i know is ibm just signed those agreements with samsung and another major asian corporation aND COULD BECOME a thron in intels side as it tries to reach its target consumer for the itanic cpus ooops i mean itanium my bad.....
