I'm thinking about upgrading my dual PPro system from 256k cache cpu's to the 512k. My 256k cpu's are taking about 39 hours/wu. A friend has the 1MB PPro's and his times are about 22 hours/wu, nice improvment. The 512k cpu's go for about $20 each, whereas the 1MB go for about $50 each (too much IMO) so I am looking at a pair of 512k.

Anyone have exact numbers on what the 512k cpu's will do?

What kind are they? 180MHz, 200? This would help. If they were 200MHz and you had them optimized I say around 20 hours.

Thad- I have a pair of 166MHz 512's that run at 233MHz on Skip's old PR440FX. If you're interested I'll run the Seti Team benchmark.

I'm talking strickly about the 200 MHz cpu's.

hallen - Don't worry about the benchmark wu bro, thanks anyway. Just tell me your avg seti wu time please. Even if the 200's I get won't do 233, it should be close.

Thanks - Thad

I'll give it a try. I'm interested in seeing how dual works but I was planning on using a BP6.

What is your board? A lot of of the 180's will do 233MHz too if your board has the setting.

Harvey

I have a quad ppro server with the 200MHz 512's in it. It takes about 23-24 hours on average.

23-24 hrs avg sounds good, better than the 39 hours by a long shot. I think I'm going to try a pair out. That's a huge improvment...and yes, I know how to properly run SETI btw. I have over 17k wu's to my credit. :)

My mobo is a Supermicro P6DNE. It can do 66 fsb (233) but the settings are documented. I had a P6DNF system I sold a few months ago and I was able to get my 200's to 233 by experimenting with jumpers, but it wasn't stable so I dropped it back. There is no way to inc voltage on these boards.

Thanks for the info guys.

Looking for a team?

512k started.

TC- Is there a way to Spy on the 2nd wu? I downloaded two then placed the team benchmark in folder #2. This is all I can see:

They may both be running on one cpu, click set afinity and save config.

Darn right they were. When I checked this AM the wu was up to 2 days 8 hours.

Tested memory with Sandra and Cachechk and they were fine.

Thank you. Thank you.

I'll restart the benchmark after I finish downloading.

Figured that was the problem :)

Wow....thanks for all the effort hallen. Not necessary for me, I was just wondering what to expect approximately since these 39 hr wu avgs suck pimple cream.

Team....what's a team?
