first off, eco mode seems to be grayed out on this MB with the 9950x.

now with PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) i have three options.

PPT limit in mW
TDC in mA
EDC in mA

i'm guessing i need to set the watt limit in mW 170,000 being 170W
i have no idea what the default settings are for the other two. :\

i'm just seeking a simple, and safe way to limit the power please and thank you.

Here are the defaults for the 9950X.
PPT=230W
TDC=160A
EDC=225A
Those number give you a TDP of 170W.

I have several sets of numbers for my 5800X3D that I manually enter in BIOS depending on what I'm doing. Something like Default, -5%, -10%, & -20%. I also run a Curve Optimizer of -27, which helps keep the CPU cooler. You could try something similar & see how it performs with the lower numbers.

many thanks. i managed to change it from PPT 230, down to 170W (170000 mW)

the curve optimizer i'm not sure about. setting it in bios P95 is stable at -25 and -30, but i can't confirm weather or not it's being used in windows. trying to save a GPU profile in Radeon software (9070 XT, -300 Mhz, -100mV) it warned me about over-riding CPU bios settings. :/

PS it doesn't help in bios making changes to Curve optimizer, then hitting F10 it says 'nothing changed'. :shrug:

loading Ryzen Master software it didn't show the -30 offset. does loading the software nullify the bios settings?

thx

I use 280/180/225 +200 and all core -28 on my 9900X.

I could back off on the power a tad. Still playing with it..
thank you for your info. :thup:

So I would change all 3 entries by 74% (170 is 74% of 230), so the TDC would be 118 and the EDC would be 166. I don't know if it really make that big of a difference, to be honest.

The Curve Optimizer definitely seems to be having a problem. Odd. I used Cinebench R23 to test my -OC inputs. You could see quite a difference from -10 to -25, for example.

From what I've read & watched about undervolting/overclocking the 5070 XT, the MHz slider doesn't really do anything. I think you want a negative power limit along with the lowered mV to reduce its power output. My card (PowerColor Hell Stone Edition :LOL:) is a 330 watt card and setting the PL to +10 make it a 360 watt card. I haven't played with a negative power limit, but I'm guess a -10 PL will give me a 300 watt card & probably reduce the max boost clock.

Edit: I forgot to add that I uninstalled Ryzen Master a long time ago. It had no use once I installed the locked 5800X3D. It hasn't been missed.

i think it may make a difference. gonna do that.

neat idea. just benchmark to see if it makes a change in score.

well, just undervolting -100mV (0.01V) the card jumps up to 3400Mhz using the same 300W. if i downclock -300 it hovers around 3000Mhz, and uses around 250-260W. loving the XFX 9070 XT Swift so far!

if i could do everything within BIOS i would. i'm gonna be running Linux as well.

thank you so much. :cheers:
