Look what my bro and myself got for our parents for Christmas/Wedding anni...42" of fun.
It's an Olevia LT42HVi. 2xHDMI (HDCP of course ;) ), 1xVGA, 2xcomposite/s-video, 2xcomponent, analog and ATSC tuners. I thought that it had QAM but it doesn't :( (my parents won't care about that). It does up to 1080i, which is also ok for my peeps but I require 1080p for my LCD hence I don't have my own yet. Oh, the crt in the pic is my current tv, a 27" pos that I got for $20 off of a friend in college. Oh, the screen isn't that shiny, there is a protective plastic still on it covering the anti-glare layer. Another cool feature is that the speakers are removable and can be mounted on the sides as well with an additional bracket. Right now I am just "testing" it out to make sure it all works.:p

Wow thats really nice...dont even want to know how far it set you back money wise. Also about the 1080i and the 1080p...I have heard that the human eye cannot tell the difference between these two...hence there is no reason to have both.

Well, I'm sure it will be a while before they get another large gift. The drawback to the TV is that the remote sucks in every way possible. I already know that I will get them a Logitech Harmony 800-series remote for their combined birthday gift (both b-day's are in June).

They are actually pretty inexpensive for a 42" LCD. You can get them for around $1200 or so...

Nice one man. I remember the year i bought my parents Snowshoes.

Laugh all you want, we lived in the middle of Maine, the only way to get around is either on ski's, snowmobiles, or snowshoes. lol.

I've been trying to talk my wife into an HD set. But we have a little something else going on right now.

thats not true, you can definatley see the picture jump a bit with text and lines when it's interlaced.

ya big time.... ... but picture quality all depends on the source ... if the dvd is written in an interlaced state it will look better on an interlaced tv... and visa versa.

Very nice.

Just one question, How did you get it into the house, and store it without them noticing? That is a pretty big box. :bday:

Well, right now it is sitting in my apt. I will be taking it to my parent's house tomorrow while they are both away at work. I can store it in my old bedroom at home and cover it with sheets and crap so they don't see it until christmas. The box is certainly large though. I don't think I will be wrapping it with wrapping paper.
