Hi everyone,

I currently have Time Warner Cable Road Runner service in NYC. I have been using my Motorola SBG900 modem and was wondering, will I see any improvements if I upgrade to a newer modem ? (Like the SB6120 or SB6121) I am not that familiar with cable modems so I am wondering if I could expect any performance increase with the new modem. I do not have any substantial issues with the SBG900, although my speeds do seem slow at times. I am not sure if that is TW service or the modem.

Thanks,
Phil

Upgrading to a DOCIS 3 modem should give you an increase in speed but check with your cable provider before you buy. I have the same service as you but in a different state and experienced a significant increase in download speed when I upgraded. Upload speed did not change because they have it limited on their end.

Thanks, grubbster. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

I know with time warner, changing equipment is always risky since phone support can tell you one thing today and a different thing tomorrow. I saw it when I tried to return my rented DVR for a cable-card for my new TiVo. I had 4 different answers as to how much the cable-card would cost.
