Should I upgrade my x2 3800+ to an opty 170?

I am thinking of getting either a 3800+ x2 or the Opteron 170, so i would like to know too?

I dont think there will be any differance on stock tho.

at stock speeds, it's not worth upgrading. it would be like if you had an X2 4200+ and wanted to upgrade to an X2 4400+. a waste of money IMO if its at stock.

So the cache won't make that much of a difference?

I will be OCing at some point when I get some better memory (running normal kingston right now :( )

I think even with OCing the price difference isn't worth it. I think you can't really count on OC results. Stick with your x2 3800.

wat about the Opteron 165 from a new buyers point of view?
any new buyer who overclocks i think should look at the dual core opterons becuase they have the extra cache but don't cost an awful lot. a 165 is the ultimate bang per buck when OCing is factored in IMO. i purchased a 144 opteron because they've been known to OC pretty good and they don't cost alot.

my recomendation: get the 165/170 if you can find it in stock for a good price. monarch has the 165 for $315 (last time i checked). i would get that since its around the same price as the X2 3800+ and you get the extra cache.
