I have an Athlon XP 1800+ on a shuttle ak35gtr. My current cooler is a cheap spire with an aluminium heatsink and a cooper base, cooled by a 22CFM fan. The temp is relatively high, with 28-30 C case temp the CPU temp ca rise up to 50. Moreover, Although the fan is not loud, 31dbA, it spins at 5000rpm, which gives it a high pitch, so i was thinking about an AX7 with a medium speed fan, around 40 CFM. Has anybody tried it? I hope that the temp will fall too, am I right?

I have an AX-7 right now with a YS-Tech 80mm variable speed fan. It works well. You should give it a try. But the best thing to do is get a delta and put a rheostat on it to make it silent. They'll give you the best performance even at low speeds.

The AX7 is a good heat sink. The Glaciator II is really good also and is not too loud, if you ar looking for verry quiet you are going to have to venture into the wonderful world of water.

I'm still using my volcano 7, not plus mind you and its on my 1800+...its really going good, I have it slightly overclocked to 1650 and its at 37C..up from 36C a few minutes ago......ok now its back to 36C...37.........36....ok so it stays around 36-37, or is right now. I would go with it though, Ive seen them online for as low as like 18 bucks, maybe cheaper....not to mention its not loud at all...the sensor on it goes by the case temp though, so if the case temp rises the fan will as well,s till not a ton of noise * i had to put my finger over the temperature piece because my case wont get hot enough to kick it up another notch :(*

rheostat??

how can i mount a rheostat on a fan????
can i know more??

becausse my volcano 6cu+ (39dba) is very loud to me,and i was wonder if i can put a rheostat on it......
