When browsing the LAN from my XP box, there are long pauses. Especially if I choose "properties" for a file. Strangely enough, there are no pauses when browsing a Linux+Samba server.

Even worse, any interaction with a network printer has 2 minute pauses!

Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thank you for reading this.

I've seen the same problem on a friend's comp on the same LAN as me. His system is:

tbird 1.4
Shuttle AK31
don't know the NIC.
WinXP Pro

We've never figured out what causes it, though. wish I could help more.

The other comps running an older OS. I see the same problem browsing my friends win98 system from 2k, works perfectly browsing another 2k system.

If I'm not mistaken this is XP's 'feature' of refreshing your network everytime.

It may be fixable, I'll take a look.
