finally installed it today, got it running with out a hitch now. had a bum nic to begin with. i love it, its sooooo fast. running it on a p2 266 w/ a 1 gig hdd and 128mb of ram. the web interface rocks! it acts just like a real router, but it has hotfix patches :clap:

I love it! Got it running on a 400mhz Celeron with 192mb ram and a 6gb hd along with 2 10/100 netgear nics. Runs smooth and i love the interface!
 
I have Linksys router/switch connected with modem and 4 computers ,at what point should I replace it- router with P333 comp and smoothwall installed on it ,is this a good idea and why ? will my network be safer ??
please explain before I commit

Your network should be no more or less safer depending on how you set up your firewall rules. Linksys routers are actually based on Linux themselves. The only real benefit to you in this situation would be that the router would be able to handle a much higher amount of computers; or have a different web interface for router configuration. Considering the size of your network and unless there's something particularly special about Smoothewall that you're insterested in there will be no real benefit.

Astaro security linux is probably THE most full featured linux router, and it's free for home use. Clarkconnect is also a good one that does much more than just firewall.
