so... whatever happened to the 5800? Did nVidia even release this card for retail, or did they just make it in limited quantities to beat the 9700PRO?

Does anyone have this card? How loud is it?

It was released just too see if nVidia could beat ati before releasing the 5900:rolleyes: Someone plz get that video about the 5800:p

I know a few people on this forum own a 5800. They might be able to answer this a little better.

they were released but in realisng what *bad* cards they were, they only made the first batch then went into production of the 5950

I found a file here that shows you how loud it is. It sounds like a jet engine. I am glad that nVidia fixed that problem.

Actually it got more or less canned because of low yeilds on core production and they werent turning a profit off the product ;)

So really these aren't really bad cards at all with some tweaking. Hows performance compared to the FX5700 or the FX5900. The price is just a little bit in between the FX5700 and FX5700U

128bit DDR bus gives it lousy FSAA performance, and it runs incredibly loud and amazingly HOT.
The 5800 was kind of stillborn...very rare, very limited production. Do yourself a favor and gran a 5900nu in this price range, it's a core enhanced FX5800 (basically the 5900 is what the 5800 should have been, better core w/ a memory bus TWICE the size of the 5800's)

I was just curious as I plan to buy a FX5900U or FX5950 after the release of the next gen cards sometime next quarter. I myself like loud things such as jet engines, and things spinning at insane RPM. I guess its in the blood since my dad worked in the Airforce:D .

I got a 5800 it's not that loud.
However when I restart or boot up my pc you can hear the fan it sounds like a delta for a few seconds.
When, playing games, or doing w/e it sounds just like my pc has always sounded.
The ram can actually burn you. Not the equivalent of touching a burner on a stove but not to far off.
I got 5309 in 3dmark 2003.
I got 3600 with my radeon 9500pro.
I'm looking to get a new heatsink for it i was wondering about the zalman cool here.

I thought it looked like it maybe a little better than the stock.
I can run max payne 2, call of duty at 1280*1024 max af and al and still get 90fps+
However, prince of persia is a little rough. At 1024*768 i can run 2xqa and 8 af and only get 50fps. I would assume that this is the lack pixel shader power coming into effect.
How is everyone else doing fps wise with this game?
It's a gorgeous game none the less and the first i've seen to require a gf3 or better.

One thing that ticks me is that this card is still really expenisve. I mean it might be rare but if there are few people whole want it then why not reduce prizes and try to cut your losses.

it doesn't perform that bad. it's faster than a 9600xt and close to a 9700pro in current games. You can get a 5800 for around $190 but u can also get a 9700 or 5900.
I got mine refurbed for $168.

Ok so it performs close to those cards but what are the actual specs as compared like bit rate, bandwith, how well it perfoms with all the eye candy stuff turned on(filters etc). And what about overclocking. Also is there an Ultra version of this card?
