yeah i heard that ocing it, it performs OK, but still its sooo loud, i have heard them in first person and they are LOUD!

mine isn't loud... when i restart it or boot up the fan is like a delta on steroids but other than that i never hear the fan.
I have an asus version so that might be why.
I could maybe get ultra speeds with some cooling. I can get 450/925 for sure though.
an ultra is 500/1000
normal 400/800
Im almost positive the core is 256bit the ram is 128bit ddr2. At stock the mem bandwidth is 12.8gb at ultra it jumps to 16gb something. Oc'd to 450mem it is 14.4gb.
I don't think the ultra version is sold anymore. Only the normal ones. Gainward was supposed to have some kind of special cooler but i never read up on it.
i think the only better cooling would be water, peltier or maybe that zalman i posted which im thinking about getting.
You can set the temp threshold so your sorta safer than norm when ocing.
Here's some benchies
Max payne 2 1280*1024 with max al and af i get around 90fps
the same goes for call of duty
with prince of persia 1024*768 2xqu al and 8af i get around 50.
I can't say weather the prince of persia is a good score or not i haven't seen anyone elses.
5309 in 3dmark 03 with 53.03 4700 with 52.16
about 14500 in 3dmark 01 14100 with 52.16
Hope that helps

Well for the heck of it I ran 3Dmark on my crappy G4MX420 and I got 124 on 3dmark03 and around 3400-3500 in 3dmark01. Also my card couldn't do about 6 of the tests because it didn't support them. I need to get me a new card soon.

I found a file here that shows you how loud it is. It sounds like a jet engine. I am glad that nVidia fixed that problem.

What sort of thrust does that turbine have, maybe I could use two in a 1/5 scale tomcat??

it doesn't perform that bad. it's faster than a 9600xt and close to a 9700pro in current games. You can get a 5800 for around $190 but u can also get a 9700 or 5900.
I got mine refurbed for $168.

Not even close.

The R9700 is in another league once you crank up AF and FSAA...

There is NO reason to buy this card when a 5900nu is less than $200.....

The 9700 Pro was also produced at a no prfit margin because some certain chips were exspensive which is why they no longer produce ther pro version nad replaced it with the 9600 pro (not even close to the output of the 9700 pro. With my system OCed to 2.4 I hit 3dmark 03 scores at 4829 (no OC on the GPU) and at 1.8 stock CPU speed I got 4650 (no OC on the GPU). I thought it was a good card (It will be missed dearly).

The 9700 Pro on newegg is about $250 and the 9600XT is about $189.

One thing I would look at if you want to buy a new GPU is the ram, I would make sure that it is 256 bit not 128 bit and try for DDR2 though you may not see any difference between DDR1 and DDR2 so thats not a real big issue. Also look at the Gpixels/sec and Mtriangles/sec rates.

Personal opinion I don't like noise!

My 35 cents.

i don't know about the 9700 being in another league with af and al.
I do after all get 90fps on max payne 2 with max af and al at a res of 1280*1024. Even though my card is a meager 128bit in the ram is clocked at 400 giving it 12.8gb and it will do 450stable so thats 14.4gb. I may not beat a 9700 pro but i should be very close to a 9700np if not more. I think a np has like 17.2gb of bandwidth but my clockspeed should make up for that.
You may be thinking the ati series vs the old ti series. the 9500pro gets double what the ti4600 could get with af and al turned on.
The only cards with ddr2 if im not mistaken are the 5700, 5800. They each have 128bit. The 9800xt and 5950 have 256bit and ddr2 (i'm not 100%about the 5950 being ddr2 but im definately sure of the 9800xt)
I probably should of added $30 and got the 5900. but i'm still happy with the fx5800 the only thing i have against it is the massive heat.
I'm just wondering what exactly does ddr2 do for a video card?
It doesn't appear to increase the mem bandwidth any.... does it help sustain the bandwidth being used?

After everything we all know and has been discussed about ATI and NVIDIA, I cannot believe the're are still people who would consider purchasing an NVIDIA card.

Well if there weren't Nvidia cards out then ATI would be jacking there prices and vice versa. Also I feel that each company has there strengths and weaknesses. If you look at benchmarks between comparable cards in most cases its a back and forth situation.

When have you seen an owner of a fx5700 or higher say gee i wish i had gotten an ati card instead of this thing based on performance and image quality.
Number 2 when have you seen a review that in its conclusion actually said don't buy this card its 100% garbage. Every review i've seen says that nvidia's fx cards are good.
Just check out (I would have posted exact links but my browser shutdown while i was typing so all the links i had are gone :( )
tomshardware.com (nvidias cards on table)
guru3d.com (nvidia introduces 5700 and 5950)
3dchipset.com (anywhere u see an fx card)
anandtech.com (same as above)
amdmb.com (anywhere you see an fx card under bits and pieces)
extremetech.com (5700 and 5950)
No one says its a bad card and that it's not worth buying.
the only people that say that are you people. You hear something about some little cheat and make it out to be that the game is unplayable with this card. It's garbage i've never seen anything so horrible i wouldn't take this card if it was for free.
So hear is a long awaiting article from anandtech comparing image quality. Be sure to look at the conclusion. Although it's in more favor of ati it doesn't say nvidia is worthless and shouldn't be considered when looking for a video card.

Also note ati does al better but nvidia does af better.
So why in the name of Zeus do you people constantly make nvidia's fx line to be worthless garbage, while every professional review says its a decent card. Everyone's performance for future games is still questionable. True ati's isn't as questionable but nonetheless if you can find an fx cheaper than its competing ati counterpart it is most likely ok to buy.
I've owned a radeon le, gf3 ti200, aiw 7500, radeon 9500pro and now a fx5800 (it's true the af is indeed better looking than my 9500 pro and likewise for the al). Most of the people that joke nvidia's fx line haven't even touched a 5700 or higher.
Eveyrone knows the fx5200 and 5600 are lacking but other than that nvidia is and OK card.
Also these cards are great overclockers. As you can see from many of the people who do own these cards in the forums.

I didnt say they were garbage, so there is no need to jump to conclusions or put words in my mouth.

But hey, if you like it....good for you :D

yeah i didn't mean to sound mad or jump to conclusions
Sorry bout that
check the anandtech article though it offers more insight into the matter.

sorry NewbiePerson, but you realy don't know what your talking about.
I could give a long list about how wrong you are, but I'll give you a piece of advice instead.
start reading from the big boys who know thier stuff....
you'll see how biased and flawed sites like THG and anandtech realy are.

I'm not going to crap all over this thred, so I'll just post a link.
now go tell the developers of the games you play, as well as the driver programers how wrong they are.

I can't belive how biased you are on your info....

First off the 9800XT does not have DDR2 the 9800 Pro does, both have 256 bit ram.

Nividia also has some problem with their GPU design, it has some flaws but so far they seam to have been able to work around the fairly well with driver updates. But it is a design flaw in the card archetiture that is not completly corrected via driver.

I never said Nividia was junk, I noted a design flaw but I also stated that they have managed to work around the problem.

My only advice was what I would recomend looking for this or that in the card that he or she wants to buy.

Plz don't make a big argument out of this! It looks like the is turning into a hate thread and its not worth it. I won't say anything bad about an product unless I have had a bad experience first hand, I admit that I try to be bias on my opinions but that is because I only know so much.

Where are those darned next gen cards. I want an FX6000!!!!!:D Either that or a Radeon 10000 would be nice;)

HMMM...its a pity when threads breakdown into arguments...

Just consider one thing....Does the card "YOU" use ( whatever make:D ) enable you to play games with speed and visual quality that "YOU" enjoy???
After all , that ALL that really matters...:)
