So, who's getting a 5XXX series card?

Anybody actually got a bead on these things (besides MicroCenter)? We're like two weeks away from when they're supposed to become available. Is there a pre-order link somewhere or something?

I've been checking around 1-2 times daily since they announced the cards, and so far NewEgg is the only site I can find that has the partner cards listed. And even then, it's only for the 80 and 90 cards...

50 series linky

There's always sites like NowInStock to keep a tracker running on all the cards/SKUs you're interested in, but glwt I think as there's always a decent delay in stock updates.

If I were to guess...we'll see the 5090 reviews first, then the 5080 a week later (yes, I know what the article below says).

Thats because the 70 & 60 cards were announced but are not shipping until the 2nd half of the year at best.
You'll see the lower-tier cards before 2H 25. Literally next month, February if nothing changes. They haven't mentioned anything 60 that I can recall either.

That's actually kind of impressive, usually they gouge ya pretty hard on trade-in hardware. But yea you could definitely get more private sale, gonna have a risk either way with NewEgg not exactly being great anything customer facing the past few years.

For 5080 and under is not too impressive. I guess if you are on the 2+gen older hardware it will make sense.

I wonder if this will lower the amount of people trying to buy these cards.

That's a big question and we can only wait and see how it goes. My gut feel is that demand will be higher than for 40 series and it might be a struggle to get what you want on launch day, although it will recover quickly afterwards.

Why? It feels like everyone got 30 series. The gains going to 40 series wasn't much unless you're going higher tier at the same time. Now that more time has passed 50 series might be more attractive. There's a bunch of noisy people on the internet hating it, but the real buyers will be the ones that count. AMD's offerings might have some impact if they ever say anything about them.

Welp, the lack of ipc gains is unfortunate but if I can get a ton for my old card and get a 5090 for regular price it's sort of worth it. That would be around 500 something bucks for a third more performance which keeps my $ per frame about even. The power draw is a bummer though. Really hoping that "TOPS" does something great that we aren't expecting.

Before the 30 series came out, there was a frenzy of cheap used 2080Ti cards on the market. It's not too late to find a cheap used 4090.
If the 5090 was also $1600, or maybe $1800, I'd sold my 4090 long ago. But at $2000, and we all know those launch prices are going to be insane sadly.
I just hope 5090 will be at least 40% faster in raster, my only issue with the 4090 is PCVR and even that is mostly CPU bottlenecked.

Wow. The used market on 4090s is still at 1600
Until anything is actually released and real reviews come in...

The speculation is that it's not THAT much of a leap, frame generation whatever notwithstanding...so 4090 users are still probably fine as-is.

Users of 8k or Dual UHD setups or the like will want to squeeze that much more out. Any WQHD or similar won't necessarily need it. My 5k2k with the 3080 Ti is fine for what I game with for the moment, but as I'd mentioned, I do want a dual UHD monitor. At present, the LG is only 72hz anyway so it's not an issue.

Yeah, though prices will drop, finding a 4090 for cheaper won't be easy. It's not too late, but it certainly hasn't started in the first place.

In my country, before the "5070 is 4090", used 4090 were sold for about $1820 - $1955. Now I see a few for $1500-$1600. The cheapest NEW 4090 I can find in my country is $2300. Meanwhile, the cheapest pre-order 5090 I found was $3700, yep you read it right, one store even asks for $5400.

I guess I should say here in the States, I guess. A quick look on ebay and we see these going going for $1000-$2000 still. Not bad. But it's certainly not too late to find a cheap one. Unless the 5090 really craps the bed (w/e that means for whoever), which I don't see happening, prices are still, likely, going to drop.

... the like... 4K 240 Hz. ;)

I think ultimately the best card of this generation will be the 5080. At $1000 msrp ($1900 in my country bwahaha), it should be about 30% behind the 5090 for half the price, with the same advanced frame generation features.
But we have official benchmarks out in a few days (for the 5090 and later for the 5080) so let's wait and see.

Even if your prices are so high, then it doesn't mean you can't order anything from other countries. Typically, you will pay only the difference in tax and duty costs, so maybe 5% more.
I also doubt that prices will be so high unless stores are scalpers. Any store connected to the official distribution will keep prices not much than ~10% above MSRP. You have to add taxes to that. I'm almost sure many stores wait for the competition's move to adjust prices. Before every large premiere, prices listed in many stores are ridiculous ... or much higher or lower without an option to order. For high demand/hard to get products, my local stores usually set prices for the first order at a reasonable level; the second one is already +10-15%, or more. It was this way with the 9800X3D too. The first batch was for almost MSRP. The second one was +25%.

$2000 is a lot of money. I still think it will sell out in an instant and be available for $2500+ from scalpers. Not sure how well it will sell at that price point, but considering 4080s are being sold at $1400+ who knows?
