So, who's getting a 5XXX series card?

Failing that... the artwork on the box should at least be worthy of being framed!
Spend $2000 on an actual artwork you like. Resolution is better than anything on a screen. Fully ray traced lighting and 3D effects. Zero power consumption. Practically zero latency (approx. 1ns per foot viewing distance).

I'll take it (30-40%). Raster performance increase may not be what some people are expecting, but if 80% of people use DLSS (according to NV) and DLSS 4 and RT performance is up there.....

... don't know if it's worth $2k, but still.

Please don't get him started, lol...makes his head explode and I'm tired of cleaning up after that mess. :p
4090 and 5090 have about the same cost per frame. But people have already shown they will be pay whatever just to get the best possible. Just like people bought the 2080Ti after the 1080Ti

By the way, if the 5080 is also 1.35x over 4080, then it's >4090 performance for $999. That's a win in my book

I really don't like that metric for some reason, lol...

That's what I have been saying since last year. That's a typical raster increase to me.
Yes because that metric is biased towards low-end. Like a 1050Ti might be the top of the list lol. When it comes to high-end, you usually get diminishing returns.

...it was kind of pathetic.

"Hey, buddies! It's that time of year again! You give us TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS and we'll give you... A CARDBOARD BOX! No picture on it or anything!! But we did engrave the logo... in the cardboard... for you!"

Not ONE CHANCE IN HELL I would pay 2000 bucks for that. You'd have to give me a T-SHIRT or SOMETHING.

Failing that... the artwork on the box should at least be worthy of being framed!

I mean... SOMETHING.
You are not supposed to be upset with that packaging, you're supposed to be grateful that no Delta Smelt or Salt Marsh Harvest Mice were harmed in the making of your detail-less cardboard box. :D

Looking forward to some non-leaked benchmarks & reviews in the coming days/weeks.

If true, initial supplies may be limited and shortages could last months. Ampere all over again! I do not buy the writer's claim that Chinese holidays will impact this. Any stock for launch was planned long ago, and it isn't like this was an unknown factor. It will be planned for. The holiday may have a small impact on ongoing supply simply from no one working for a period, but not significant in the long term.

My personal plan isn't significantly changed by this claim. I will still try for a launch day 5080. If I fail to get a reasonably priced one before 5070 Ti, that would be a reserve option. That has a potential date of Feb. 20 according to one listing on a retailer site.

For once we're in agreement! Let's not eveeeeeen get started!

I DID! I'm in Actual Europe where you can get real paintings/drawings from people you've actually heard of for practically nothing.

You are not supposed to be upset with that packaging,

Let me see... ahhh... 2005... must be new here. :welcome: My name is RAINLESS... and I am DEFINITELY supposed to be upset about the packaging! :)

What's the power consumption on that thing anyway? 400 watts? 500 watts?

"Can confirm"

I heard the same last week, possibly mentioned it here(?), from the BnM level. No idea on actual counts for all of the stores.

575W for 5090 (that, and other details, are all over the thread). :)

Yes because that metric is biased towards low-end.
I don't know about integrated bias... that's just how the math works. I fear how people read that data set (many data sets, lol). Interpretation is important. My biggest problem with it is that "bang for the buck" doesn't get you the FPS you need/want. It's another piece of the puzzle, for some (not me).

Today's the big day. In 5:30 hours we're getting 5090 reviews. The 3DMark leaks tell the "pure" uplift (30-40%), now it's time to see what happens in DLSS and FG titles.

5090 - Mega tight (single digits at present, maybe double for launch)
5080 - Very tight (few hundred)
OCUK, a large e-tailer in UK, had the above to say about 50 series stock numbers. Even if you extrapolate that to other e-tailers that's not a lot.

OcUK alone has sold and shipped 5000+ 9800X3D's already.
They speculate that a lot of 9800X3D owners are waiting for GPUs to complete their new build. I'd add, if you're spending that much on a CPU, you're probably not looking at a lower end GPU either. Existing offerings wont help much. 4080+ tier are pretty much out. 4070TiS is the highest NV GPU still generally available. Over on red side, 7900XT/XTX are still available for now.

So maybe I'll get a 50 series GPU in May then? Based on past experience during Ampere launch, you'll be lucky to even see it listed in stock if you mistime your F5 by a few seconds of go live time. On one rare occasion I got as far as checkout before the server died and I couldn't complete.

Availability highly depends on the people who handle orders. I see some of the largest stores always release even widely available products with delays. 9800X3D is a perfect example of how some enthusiast/gamer-oriented stores do it right. Those focused on mass sales go for lower series and don't even predict that something else can have a high demand. It's also when you hire people who have no idea about the market demands and target customers. I was already working for a distributor with a sales department full of people skilled in furniture or grocery sales. Most of them didn't even know how the PC looked inside.

Btw. OCUK is under the same owner as Caseking and Caseking added 9800X3D to their offer yesterday. At least two days ago it wasn't even listed and now I see it's listed and available. It's also much cheaper than in Poland (count ~$100 cheaper).

Inventory management can be easy or hard. It's usually people that make it hard.

/tangent

I'll be keeping an eye on OC and SCAN, or wherever else. Maybe I'll spring...but we'll see. As above, I too said to hell with it and am waiting to finish my "new" build, which is quickly getting old, on a new GPU. Maybe before the TRX50 platform goes obsolete this will be done.

I have no idea of real scale, but OCUK and Scan are likely 2 of if not the biggest PC part e-tailers in UK. They're not generalist electronics or mixed goods, so they probably know what they're doing. Supply up the chain will be the main problem.

I did note 9800X3D retail version seems to be in stock now. It is over 50% more expensive than when I got my 7800X3D so think I'll pass.

Because of problems with 9800X3D availability, in some magical way, 7800X3D prices went significantly up, too. I paid 30% less for mine than it's listed now.

What I'm saying is that it's easy to actually provide info to available stock. OC does to a certain extent, but they don't readily give specifics unless you order more than what they have. If they have two or three, maybe you'll see it. Tracking that isn't difficult, but I'd wager they outsource any web design and stock integration so...not necessarily blaming them.

I don't recall SCAN ever showing that.

The reality is it's a nice to have for the consumer. Certainly not a need to have.

First review is up, TomsHardware italy didn't read the NDA agreement lol

tldr. +27% over 4090 in any game that doesn't support DLSS 4.0, and +100% (or more) in games that do.
DLSS 3.0 or old frame generation are also in the 30% range.

power consumption, about 25% higher than 4090. Like the 4090 that needs to be pushed hard to reach 450W, the 5090 needs to be pushed hard to reach >500W.

TechpowerUp review is up

Also GamersNexus

There is a Micro center right down the street from me. I never had the chance to be at the store when it opened to TRY and got the first release of a video card. I might this time hopefully there won't be a million people thinking the same thing.
