So, who's getting a 5XXX series card?

I was going to get a laser pointer ir temperature reader gun to check the power plug temperature while gaming but after reading some reviews it looks like they aren't pinpoint accurate enough to check tiny spots. Thermal image cameras are too expensive. Is there another way?

They are +/- 10mm spot accurate, less than the connector, but not small enough to check each pin/wire. They are also cheap, like $10-15, and you can use it for something else later.

Define too expensive? Have you seen the Flir ONE models that connect to a phone. ~$200. I think I have an older gen version.

Sure. $200 to check on some wire temps occasionally? Way too expensive (for me - for personal use - for OCF.......I'd buy it). I 'own' a 5090 and won't be buying one.

Remember.......................... 3 have gone up in smoke..............in week 1......................none since.

There was another case last week I think. But still very rare.

MSI order upgraded to..... "Preparing"

I guess they are waiting for new stock from Taiwan. Better than being dropped.

CDW just updated with est. ship date of 3/26. I may get stupid lucky to try two 5090s and pick one. Not sure if I'll return or sell. CDW cranked the price up on me, not awful but far above MSRP that some people would pay ($2900 for an ASUS TUF).

You think... lol. Link?

The reddit list (FWIW?) I posted a couple of days ago in this thread, hasn't shown any new since mid-February. We don't know who or how this list is being compiled/updated but yeah. I'd also figure news outlets would pick up on additional failures. If we assume that list is The Gospel, we've had 3 since launch so far.

Just giving the option in case it is of interest to anyone. It's not like you can only use it on GPU cables. It's a tool that can be generally used if you want to, and the pricing isn't a major barrier now it is in consumer level with these phone connected models. No more do you have to look at 4 figure price tags for "professional" models, although they can give more features for that money. In the context of the PC space, it's not that big a spend.

Not saying it isn't a good deal but I don't want to spend more than 20 bucks or so on something I'll probably never use again or seldom at best

Fully aware there are other uses, but it just isn't anywhere close to worth it for me at $200. $50 maybe... lol. :)

It feels somehow expensive, but I will keep it in my mind until I have the next stupid idea of spending money on something useless. Then spending $200 on the thermal camera would actually be not a bad idea. Btw. I was already checking them on Amazon PL and the price is about $150 inc. 23% VAT, so it's getting even not so bad.

$200 I guess was the MSRP on manufacturer's site. I didn't look around for street since many sites geo-locate making it a pain for me to find US street pricing. Still, given comments here, I get it. It's way above interest for this particular use, even if street pricing might be a bit lower than list. Maybe it is because I've come from a photography/imaging hobby background, to me it costs relatively little for something that does what it does. I'll leave it there before I go way off topic!

Yeah, $17 ones were mentioned above.......now that's worth it...........

........I wonder how accurate they are tho........
