So, who's getting a 5XXX series card?

Yeah, $17 ones were mentioned above.......now that's worth it...........

........I wonder how accurate they are tho........

I'd say close enough, but basically you're looking for extreme anyway. I have one in my kitchen that I use to get the temp of my cast iron pan before searing for example

The laser pointer on the thermometer also makes for a great cat toy. :)

The inexpensive models do not like having a large temp variance from room temp. So if you store it in the garage and it's 50F out there in winter you will find it is very inaccurate in the 70F house until the thermometer comes up to room temp.

Not sure why my Shuffle notifications stopped but after screwing with notifications I received the shuffle notify last night for today. Only interested in the cheapest ones. Like a PNY 5080 $999. Or the lowest priced 5090 next to the FE. Just not going to get sucked in to their high priced game again.

Asus is going insane with their pricing, but I imagine its hedge betting against the current american admin.

I have been on B&H Photo waiting list since 1/30/25 I finally got an email notification that rtx 5080 is in stock. First come first serve. But I don't want to pay $1549 + Sale tax for this card. I am waiting for the cheaper version $1099 PNY RTX5080.

I checked the power plug to the card for temperature with the IR gun after 20 min of driving around in cyberpunk with mods cranked. GPU-z says 533w power draw. The plug was between 88f and 98f depending on the spot.

90F or 90C?

That seems too cold... I wonder if your thermal reader is getting disrupted by the air currents around the power socket rather than the socket itself. Those cheaper laser temp sticks probably use a higher wavelength diode so it may not pierce "air" as easily.

This talk reminds me those IR gun thermometers don't measure a point, but a circle around the indicated dot. The further away the measurement point is, the bigger the circle. If you're looking to measure something the size of a power connector, you'll probably have to get pretty close to get that effective size down. Then if the laser isn't exactly centred on the IR measurement, there could be another offset error from that.

Edit: found this on an ebay listing of a random cheap unit. See if the specific unit owned might have a different ratio.

Oh I read laser instead of IR, when I first looked at Brando's post. Yeah I bet the temp stick was too far away.
