So, who's getting a 5XXX series card?

I wouldn't buy another aio water-cooled GPU.

Reason mostly is size without customization

I say that tho , lol

I wouldn't buy an expensive card with an AIO just because AIOs typically don't live long enough to trust them with very expensive hardware, and later, there can be problems with cooler replacements. It's a good air cooler or custom loop. However, if the card isn't noisy, then the custom loop is pointless and very expensive. It's more for the looks than anything else.

You care more about the name of the card than what it does? The 5070 is there at $549 and seems a worthy successor to the 4070.
no your taking that the wrong way.

xx70 cards are generally mid range cards, $700+ is like king **** card pricing.
Inflation or not thats too much for something thats in the middle.

I didnt pay that much for the 2070 when it was relevant or 3070Ti i'm currently using, i'm not sure i paid half that to be honest

i'm voting with my wallet and its just too much, and I have no problems spending too much money on stupid things (i.e. FPGA retro consoles) when i have the money and time, and i have both at the moment but theres a breaking point that these crossed

we'll see what MSRP for 9070XT / XTX(?) is and go from there

Wrong thread? :D

Not really. I just see all post in multiple Nvidia threads saying they want to buy RTX5000, while barely anyone mentioned a new AMD. I mean, it was barely mentioned; no one even said that wish to buy it. There were many who were waiting for the RX9000 series. Of course, they were not released yet, but the same RTX5000.
So, this is not the wrong thread. It's more like a comment that there is no interest in new AMD cards.

I was being facetious given the thread title.

Look what you made me do! MSRPs of 70 series cards at launch.

I'd argue if you're going to look at 70 cards, you look at the base model primarily, where the volume is. Pricing has been relatively flat for that during RTX era. It gets a bit more complicated with the Ti since the relative performance to baseline may not be consistent, so that should be taken into consideration for value purposes. I view the Ti models as something for the person who wants more, but can't stretch to a 80 tier.

Also note that pricing generally trends downwards throughout the sales life. So if you buy one at the end of a gen it will generally be cheaper than at the start. Thus using MSRP keeps things somewhat consistent. Before anyone goes there, 30 series was a special time for multiple reasons so actual street pricing was impacted heavily by that.

I think 5070 from 549 is going to sell very well.

I had 3x8pin RX6800XT, so it's nothing new. However, my card ended just after connectors, while this one looks 150mm longer

Just tried quickly looking around, and what's shown so far seems to all be chonky 3 fan versions. Has there been any indication so far of expected power levels? I thought these might be relatively efficient given the node they're on, or are AMD really pushing the envelope here? Also how did get get onto AMD in a 5000 series thread? :D

I guess you have to blame me for putting a question some posts ago :ROFLMAO:

After testing the last RX7900GRE, even if AMD says that TDP is lower and doesn't need a huge cooler, then I won't believe it until I see it under load. At least for now, these huge coolers somehow fit my expectations ;) ... I wish to be wrong here, but I guess we have to wait a couple of days for more tests/reviews. At least in the last generation, AMD at a similar TDP was much worse in terms of heat and often cooler quality than Nvidia. My RTX4080 runs quiet with about as large a cooler as RX7900GRE (not even XT or XTX), which was way too loud (3 fans at 3k RPM is just too much).
Going back on track, I expect the RTX5080 will still be offered with relatively quiet coolers, but this often depends on the manufacturer and the card's cost.

On cooler sizes, I remember many expressing surprise the 5090 was only 2 slot. Since then I've seen pics with more context around it, and it might only be 2 fans but they're big. So rather than go for thickness it is still a lot of area.

While I'm still targeting a 5080, the FE's rated board power of 360W is higher than I'd like. Up from the 320W of the 4080/S.

On power usages, Nvidia generally state total board power (they call it Total Graphics Power TGP), which is most useful from a user perspective. I haven't paid attention to AMD since they haven't made any GPU I'm interested in buying for many generations. Do they do so similarly nowadays? I recall way way back they gave chip TDP which is less useful at a practical level, even if sometimes useful at a technical level.

In both cases, manufacturers say TDP in specs. In reality, Nvidia stays not much above that (like you said, it's more like total board power), while AMD goes even 100W+ above. This is why I compared RTX4080 to RX7900GRE. Both are supposed to have about the same expected max power draw. In reality, AMD has 100W+ more average. XT/XTX have even more.

Just to be clear.. crossfire is dead right?

Just saw a video showing a the Reaper.. only 2 slots.. pretty badass.
