I will be buying a computer from monarch within the next week.

you know the drill

post what i should get.

MAX limit is 2000 dollars.

my preferred limit is 1800 dollars.

and please i beg you. dont say build it yourself. thats not an option. so just suggest what i should get.

my main concerns are.

what kind of cpu? a amd 4000 or a 3800 dual?

7800 gt or 7800 gtx.

should i get a cheaper processor like the 3700 but get a 7800 gtx OR get a fast processor like a amd 4000 but a slower vid card like the 7800 gt.

Does it have to be from Monarch? Their selection of parts is kinda small for an online store, and they still overcharge people for stuff (although not as much as Dell). If you're still too afraid to do it yourself, I'm sure someone from the forums (like me ;)) would be willing to build one for you, and I'm sure they wouldn't overcharge you like Monarch (cuz I just like building computers :))... But if you insist on Monarch... A 3800+ X2 with DFI Lanparty Ultra-D, OCZ Powerstream 520W (which apparantly they have now), 2GB OCZ RAM, and a 7800GTX, which will end up around $1850+shipping. Assuming you don't get an overpriced floppy drive, that is. Despite what they say, you don't need a floppy drive to install Windows unless you need to install drivers for a 3rd party RAID controller.

yea i NEED to buy the computer fast before they stop selling the 520 powerstream with there custom built pc's.

the 1850 is great. I MAY just get a 3700 so i can save an extra hundred bucks but i think i would kick my own *** 6 months from now if i did. idk what do you think? the extra 100 is a good investment?

for gaming a single core cpu will be comparable to a dual core, as most games wont make use of the second core at all.

on the other hand, dual core is sweet, and i want it.

Surprisingly, Windows is smart enough to spread out the work load between the two cores like that. The only reason most people say single core is better for gaming is because the single core is faster. But within 6 months-1 year games will start being able to use both cores on a dual core processor, and when that happens you'll be wishing you bought the dual core.

Too bad they don't have the Opteron dual cores. And it looks like their configurator thing prices every a bit higher, like that OCZ Powerstream520 is $10 more expensive, and etc.

But yeah, definitely go for the X2 3800+. Even though single core work a tad better in gaming now, eventually dual cores will have much more benefits.
