Ok everyone, I just signed up for this board to thank ALL of you for ALL of the information in this thread. I also have a prescott that I have been wanting to cool down and have been having problems finding information on hardware to use.

All of this information will be a great help to me.

Thank you again.

Anytime - That's for what and why we're here...

Thermalright just came out with an even better version of hte XP-90 noted as the XP-90C and is copper... I wish they had, had this one when I was to buy the first model..... for now I will have a spare HS - heh.... Does anyone have any suggestions for the Northbridge cooler... Thermalright makes that as well but will it fit the MSI 915P/G combo motherboard?.... Any recommendations on RAM coolers are also welcome.

p.s. There is no substitute as of yet for the marvelous Arctic 5 Micronized Silver Thermal compound to my knowledge... the stuff is like gum arabic, is very efficient and is essential for the Thermalright HS.

I have one more question for everyone.... Wher can I buy a southbridge heatsink? Everything execpt that seems to be very cool in the case - the sensor is reporting 127F and the rest of the sensors are reporting 90F or lower... I reach in to touch test all the sinks and the southbridge is the hottest... Any suggestions folks??? I would prefer a fan assisted model if possible...
Thanks,
Qij.

WOW, those temps are really high. I'm overclocking 3.8ghz and I'm still only under 50C with a P4 2.8ghz Northwood.

The Prescott chip runs a lot hotter than the Northwood and when it comes to cooling it's almost like comparing apples and oranges. It actually took quite a bit of experimentation (not too mention heat sinks, fans, etc.) before I got my 530 down to the low fiftys at load--with stock cooling it was frequently going above 70°C.

Speedfan is reporting 3 sensors on my MSI 915p/g Combo motherboard...
Sensor 1 seems to be the northbridge and is 75F.
Sensor 2 is definitely the processor and is reading 76 - 80F
Sensor 3 is an unknown factor and reads 128F
Sensor 4 is the Hdd and is fine @91F
Is sensor 3 the southbridge and what in the blazes do I do aboiut a Heatsink for all it takes is a little more temp and the sys crashes... this one value being high is keeping me from overclocking my chip any more than to 3.277GHz from 3.0, which sucks majorly... I see several boards with southbridge fans and so on but there is not much that I have been able to find online to replace that blasted HS... Suggestions Folks please...... I went to a lot of trouble, even buying the aerocool spiral galaxies case that is specifically designed for p4 prescott.
The Thermalright cools the NB and the air chamber is over them both - funneling hot air out instead of circulating it through the case. When the southbridge HS is examined by touch it seems to be the hottest thing on the board... One other matter... the rotten HS on my Leadtech Winfast GeForce 6600 TD has crapped out twice already and had to be serviced. I find that the crazy idiots were using only lithium grease... and not white lithium either...just the plain stuff that is like hard petroleum jelly in winter.. I replaced the grease with my special high speed mix of 2.75parts graphite grease, 1 part Marvel Mystery Oil, 0.25 part Duralube Multipurpose Lubricant... Wonderful grease that works on almost any high speed app... The fan is quiet for now but I need a better HS... I noticed the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer version 6 on the market and was wondering if it fits the card. There is also a Vantec Iceberg Copper Cooler... In final mention... The Delta Delta 92x38mm TFB0912GHE Super High speed fan is just toooo blasted loud and speed fan will actually shut it off, then the thing has trouble starting rotation again and I begin to see 100F temps again. I have been looking into these 3 blade fans - Recommendations??? I even attempted to use the motherboards onboard control and several different configuration schemes in speed fan to no avail. I see a fanless southbridge HS at sidewindercomputrs but it looks like I might need a fan.

sensor #3 is likely the PWM temperature, A.K.A. where all your MOSFETS are

edit: sensor #1 probably isnt the northbridge - its the case temperature

The MOSFETs are also cooled by the XP-90 and have specialty heatsinks already.... As I stated before... the ONLY hs on the board that is hot is the southbridge... What I really need are suggestions as to where to purchase a decent southbridge heatsink - www.sidewindercomputers.com has one but it's an ambiently cooled sink and huge, I would prefer a fanned one if possible. The southbridge HS is very hot to the touch and is the ONLY one on the whole board. Nice try though - I just checked the MOSFETs and they are cool as ice.
Thanks...
