Are socket A and socket 462 the same thing? I have a friend who burned up his t-bird 1.2ghz. His socket is labled 462. One of the plastic tabs holding the heatsink on broke off and left his heatsink dangling :( . So he needs a new processor and a heatsink that uses more than 2 of the mounting clips.

Yes they are the same thing, it's actually called socket A, but has 462 inserts for pins from the processor.

My condolences to your friend on his loss. Slide this  down to him.

Hopefully, your friends board has the four holes around the socket. Many of the better heatsinks attach using those holes. He might be able to replace the broken part with JB Weld epoxy, I've fixed many things that I wouldn't have thought were repairable with that stuff. But the four hole heatsink is your best bet.
