Socket7 mobo losing CMOS memory

I have a problem with my old socket7 mobo (no-name, Ali1542 chipset): if I power it down for more than ~15-30 minutes, the CMOS memory is all gone. First I thought it was the battery so I changed it even if it seemed OK still. But the problem persists even with a new battery. Has anyone ever had such a problem?. Apart from that, the system is fine and runs stable, it's just highly annoying to not have a clean boot and setting the date everytime
