Okay, assumed that I have bought a Radeon 9500 pro and I would like to softmod it to 9700, but there are some questions which I am confusing. So please guide me…

a) Will softmod void my warranty?
b) What is a bad affection for softmod?
c) Is there any dangerous for softmod?
d) Can I undo the softmod and restore it to the default condition?
e) What do I need to do, if I failed to softmod it?

: (

They have to say that, but that is the correct card to try the mod on. Even if the mod doesnt work u still have a kickass card. Most people try modding with only one of W1zzards hacked drivers. I had to try 3 differant ones before I got it to work.

You cannot softmod a 9500 pro into a 9700. You can only softmod a 9500 Non Pro into one,

Lazlo, I will have to diagree.

I have a "built by ATI" Radeon 9500 Pro.

It has been modded to a 9700 non Pro.

All benchmark software, ie; Sisoftware Sandra,

Futuremark 3dmark03. Madonion and AIDA32 all

indicate "Radeon 9700 Series".

That's only the driver name; AFAIK that's changed if you flash a BIOS that allows o/c or if you have some driver issue. Your card is not softmodded; that is impossible.

How exactly did you manage that?? I have a built by ATI Radeon 9500 Pro and there's no chance of me being able to mod it to a 9700 of any kind. How about some links to your 3D Mark scores?
Just because they all indicate a Radeon 9700 series doesn't mean anything. Futuremark/Mad Onion lump the 9500 and 9700 series cards all together in their scores. Also, once you have flashed the 9500 Pro bios to whichever 3rd party bios you're using, it is detected as a 9700 Pro by your system, which is why Sandra and Aida32 both show it to be as such. Just because the computer detects it as a 9700 Pro and it can be overclocked, doesn't mean it has been modded into one... It hasn't

Thats funny. I don't remember stating I soft modded a 9500 PRO to a 9700 PRO.

THAT IS impossible, one is 128 bit the other is 256 bit....duh

Right now, Forum Rules will not let me post attachments.

It is pointless to continue with this.

I regret posting. I am sure by now you do too.

so how did you get your 9500 pro on a pcb with a 256 bit mem bus? because the 9700 np has a 256bit bus, aside from clock speeds it is the same as a 9700 pro

You said you modded yours to a 9700...

Ok this may clear some things up.
The 9700 series has 8 piplines and 256 bit memory (4 memory controlers). The is speced at 4 piplines and 128bit memory (2 memory controllers). The first 9500np's were built on the same pcb as the 9700's are built on ( red pcb). 9500np's have all 8 piplines and 4 memory controllers on the card just that 4 piplines are disablled and 2 memory controllers are disabled. It is possible to use hacked drivers (such as wizard's) to enable these piplines and controllers. The pcb's of the 9500np's were updated a while ago to be better optimizes for the 9500np's shortage of piplines and controllers (the new black pcb). This new version doesnt have the extra piplines and controllers so it cant be hacked. The red pcb versions are hard to find now and half the time the hack doesnt work or causes to many artifacts to be used.

btw trhe 9500 pros have no possibilities of being modded into a 9700. It can only be overclocked to the same clock frequencies as the 9700. You can change your bios to be a 9700's causeing it to be detected as a 9700, but it will never have the memory controllers and pipelines.

I wish someone would post a sticky about this.

No i don't regret posting at all, just leave off the PRO from 9700 PRO and the questions still stand. We're not just talking about overclocking, that isn't modding a 9500 Pro to a 9700, that's overclocking a 9500 Pro.
You can still post links, why can't you give us a link to your 3D Mark scores so we can see the 9700 performance from your 9500 Pro?
Here's mine http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6184432 for 3D Mark 2001 and http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=450923 for 3D Mark 2003 (cpu not overclocked as much as it was for 2001 and both tests done before i added the extra ram).

I flashed mine with the 9500_30.bin and it read 9700 afterward also, but powerstrip still read the 9500 pro default core and mem speed so it must be a code string in the BIOS that causes the computer to read it as a 9700. The funny thing is though that my 3dm2001 score shot up considerably which I still haven't figured out.
