software for editing video

whats a good free program i can use only to re-size avis, mpegs etc and putting them together in a sequence?
no problem if there are more things the program can do, but i need it to be just as simple.

i got these OEM bundled with my video cards but dont know if they actually do what i want: MSI DVD, ASUSDVD 2000. does anyone know about them?
i figured out there is no such free program. i found one from a post in the forums named Virtual Edit.
whats your recommendation? please, let me know if i should look yet for a free program.

Ok premiere is damn good ...tryi9ng to get a copy my self you can down load the Full trail version which will last for 30 days
