um..well for starters i wanna say hi ;D

im new to this forum and to computer tweaking so i need a little help.I have a celeron that i want to o/c but the only thing ive managed to do is to raise my mhz from 433 to 488........and i feel that....its....to little ;=) i WANT MORE!!! and i think ur the right guys/gals to help me with that.U can c my comps spec down below (i hope).um well the only thing ive done is changing some jumpers (dont really know what im doing) but..is there some other way?

Welcome to the Forum,

As a beginner I would point you to the beginners guides on the front of the site as these have great information for people new to overclocking
Also please try to tell us as much as you can about your system including tempratues such in degree C, the more information you provide the more chance we have of helping you.

ok ;D fast answer....um...well..im using win98/win2k usualy win98..maxtor hd 40gb and a seagate 7gb,my temp is usualy around 45-50 Celcius (ignore my bad english),and.....um....what else is there to say?....i have upgraded my bios to the latest...........anything else?

oh almost forgot,i have read the guides (all of them actually) but still.....is it right that my intel mobo is "locked" or something so i cant o/c my cpu? can i only change my fsb? i really want my comp to go faster....so........its up to u guys.....if u can help me then im thankful

The highest FSB you can get on an LX mobo is 83mhz. So theoretically you could overclock to 540mhz. So use good cooling if your gonna up the VCore and you might be able to hit it.

With the mobo/cpu your pretty limited to overclocking and upgrading. Any upgrade would require a new mobo so...$

Good luck.

..........i wished that answer was music to my ears but....... well i talked to some friends and they said something about increasing the voltage.....um........how do i do that? jumpers? or....??

cleaning puppet, btw...you said something about only changing fsb to o/c, yours is a celeron with 66fsb so it is good to boost that fsb anyways...and so it is overclocking the cpu at the same time :D, and yes the voltage would be changed by jumpers, and the higher the voltage, the more heat, maybe you'll want to invest in a better HSF? who knows, i dont even know how good that mobo is heh good luck!

oki doki ;D thanks for all the support guys *wipes some tears from his eyes*.....um.....*checking in manual for how to change voltage*..........*looking....looking*.......crap....*checking the homepage for his little gigabyte mobo*..........*curses*......i cant find anything about how to change the voltage ;( so i feel a little sad right now...........i wrote down the voltage settings i have now so....if anyone has the energy to use his/hers wisdom to help me then il......give that person my kingdom ;=) (if i had one)

Vcore: 2.06 VGTL: 1.50 VCC3: 3.55
+5V: 5.02 12V -12V: 12.03
-5V: 4.99 VBAT: 3.18 5VSB: 4.91

so......to be honest i dont know diddely squat about that ;D i guess vcore is the main thingy or what?

2.06 Vcore is the default voltage that a Celeron Medicino requires.

You might not be able to change the Vcore on that motherboard. Im not sure.

Gigabyte makes tons of boards witht he 'Auto' voltage 'feature' so you might be stuck, sorry :)

May be time for a new motherboard.

;| now im depressed........so.......if a new mobo is the key.....what should i buy? i mean.....you r looking at a dude without much cash ;( and if i buy a new mobo do i need a new cpu or.....? and do i need to replace any other parts? i almost have money for...um...lets see.......
ABIT VIA694 VH6II ATA/100 133MHz,Intel 810chip DMA 66 Slot 1 and MSI 6309, 4xAGP, 133MHz, DMA100...........there.....ive said it......... whats ur suggestion?

Which Celeron 433 do you have? The slot one or the socket version? If you plan on using that CPU, then that might make a difference on your choice of motherboards to buy. If you have a slot one CPU chip, then it will not work with a socket 370 mobo. But, both style chips will work in a slot one mobo (socket chips need an inexpensive slotket adapter). If you're really on a super tight budget, you might consider looking for a used motherboard that someone has laying around after an upgrade. I might suggest an Abit BE6-II or if you can't find that, an Abit BH6. Look in the classified section of this site or on eBay.

Your current LX chipset mobo has 3 FSB settings (66, 75, and 83 MHz). Apparently you have managed to overclock it to 75 FSB. Did you try 83? If so, what happened? It's probably close to the limit (or beyond) for most of those old Celly chips, especially if you're using the standard heatsink and fan. Overclocking requires top notch cooling and sometimes a little boost in CPU core voltage to achieve stability. I say, be happy with the overclocking accomplishment you got or get a new (or newer) system. If you get a different mobo, you might as well step up and get a newer CPU too, such as a Celeron 600 or similar. Most of the Celly 600 chips will do 900 MHz without too much trouble. You'll need a good CPU cooler and a case fan or two. Probably time to save up some money and shop around.

Thanks a lot ;D well....i actually managed to raise the speed to 544 i think but the whole thing couldnt pass the bios ;( so it froze.........poor thing......... and is it true that the voltage maybe is "locked" or something? cause i cant find anything related to the voltage in the manual or on gigabytes homepage...

oh btw is there anyone here that has any experience/problems with maxtor hd`s ? i have a maxtor 40gb but i can only use 30gb........any suggestions how to fix that?

The Intel CPU clock multiplier is locked. The CPU core voltage is controlled by the motherboard. Many mobos have automatic voltage and cannot be changed manually. Perhaps that is your situation.

The harddrive issue probably should be addressed in another section. However, I have a 40 gig Maxtor and had no trouble utilizing the whole drive. My guess is that when fdisk was performed on it to set up the drive, the partition was set to 30 gig instead of 40 gig. The other possibility is that 2 partitions were created, a 30 gig and a 10 gig. Look in Windows Explorer and see if you have a C and a D harddrive listed. If you have only one actual harddrive, then that's what happened. If you have no 10 gig partition, then the only way to use the entire disk is to completely set it up again from scratch, which means losing everything on your harddrive in the process.

I am using a VH6-2 and I love it, you will not be limited by the MoBo anymore, you can pick this up for around $80-$90+s/h @ pricewatch.com
