some recomendations please

my brother is concidering building an amd pc. something with a thunderbird 1400. i have no clue what to recomend to him since money has limited me to playing arround with cellerons and cheap archaic intel stuff. basically what i would like to know is what are the best amd motherboards out there. he doesnt want a raid system either. also do you guys recomend a pc 133 or ddr board. thanks

one other note, he probably wont be overclocking it. (what a waste)

my friend just ordered the epox ddr board (called 8k7a+ i think). i read a couple good reviews about that one. im personally looking forward to the new nforce boards, but those wont be out for a little bit (anyone know offhand when they are scheduled for?). probably too logn a wait. www.socketa.com has some mobo reviews, though i dunno how good the site is... there is a review of the epox board there if you wanna check it out, as well as some others.

If he ain't gonna overclock or tweak, he's better off just going to pricewatch and grabbing some cheapo. Of course, if he changes his mind, he'll be sorry later.

aren't ddr boards iffy if you choose a cheap one? or will cheap ones be stable just not good to oc with?
