that uses a windows service called messenger... right click on my computer click manage... services and applications... services.. then search for the service named manager and disable it... that should stop the popups

No one is hacking you. It is a spammer using net send. there are a few ways to deal with it . 1. turn off the service so net send will not work on your computer. 2. get a router. A router blocks them from coming in. Here is a thread on the subject that was linked from the front page a while back:D

I just love those messages! They send you one...you get their IP, you..."play" with them like they "played" with you. Especially since I have a program that can supposedly send 100 of those messages a second...its more like 25.

i'm glad that somebody knew how to stop these... they were really starting to make me mad... it would bring my computer up in the morning and i would have these offers to buy a diploma. haha. even though buying a diploma would be cheaper than actually going to school :p

I've never seen one but that's because I've used ZoneAlarm or a router since day one. Using broadband without any kind of firewall is just fool-hardy and is worse than leaving your front door open all the time.

apparently, here at purdue we can't have firewalls... if our resnet (our high speed provider) finds out that we are using one, we can lose our connection... it's their way to make sure we aren't hosting illegal things (kiddie porn, cracked programs, apps, etc)i would die without the internet... and at $50 per school year, it's a hell of a deal
