Alright so i just uninstalled my watercooling kit and i made quite a mess. I thought i wiped all the water off but apparantly i didn't. There was some left on the power cable (dont ask how it got there), and some other places inside of the case, there was a small amount on the video card and some on a power connector or two inside the case, most importantly though there was a bit on the female end that goes into the power supply and it made a small pop when i plugged it in. First my system wouldn't post, or beep, but everything would turn on (drives, fans, etc). I took the rig apart and got down to the basics and now the computer wont come on :(. Everything was working fine with the watercooling system however i uninstalled it because my resevoir is leaking. Is this a motherboard problem, a power supply issue, a cpu issue or worse a "My whole system is screwed" issue? I have a pentium 4, it's my first intel processor since the pentium 1 days. The motherboard doesn't come on now with or without the cpu in it; all motherboard fan connectors are connected and i have one stick of ram in the motherboard. I dont think it's the power supply because i can here the power to it cut sometimes when i turn it off. I'm trying to figure out this problem and i really can't. I'm thinking i'll run out to the store later after a friend comes over with his power supply so i can check if thats the problem and get a new motherboard, didn't like my gigabyte 8knxp that well anyway, i just hope the damage was contained :(.

how did you make quiete a mess?

your supposed to drain your system first! so no water left in it. then unplug the hoses from the resourvoir and pump and seal them with some cella tape. then take ur cpu block etc off with the hoses still on and ones all that jazz is done you disconnect the hoses from the block, radiator etc.

I cannot believe you made quiete a mess and you spilled water and then you thought you dried it and switched it on. it seems you made a huge mess. you should have left everything to dry for at least 24 hours.

I dont know what you broke but it could be anything. best is to check everything first.

and I would just buy a new PSU and not use it any more... water on the power connector of the psu....

sorry to moan and stuff but people will read this and stay away from watercooling, which is a great shame because it is safe if you are careful.

Well like i said im not a pro at it and we all make mistakes, i installed it on my own and did fine and figured i could uninstall it alone safley, well i was wrong. I drained the system, by quite a mess i just meant that i disconnected a hose from the pump, flipped it on and just had the pump spit the water out for me. A little water got here and there, it might have been an over exageration, i got one drop on the video card and wiped it off, but i freaked out it's a radeon 9800 256 mb pro! I honestly think that it was the power supply since i recieved no beeps from the motherboard and it wont turn on now. I dont think people will read this and stay away from watercooling, if anything i might be called a newb but oh no i'm being called a newb on the internet. I'm just asking for help, hopefully people will read this and just learn to be more careful. I've learned my lesson now i just want to fix my box >_<, and yeah im scared annoyed whatever you want to call it T________T. I just want it to be the PSU so i dont have to reformat and buy any new parts.

Does anyone know if i have to reformat SATA drives if i change motherboards? I know i will have to reinstall windows :(.

Relax. Unplug all the connectors of the PSU. Put a wire on pin14 and a ground . Then turn the PSU on either at the wall plug, or by a switch behind it. If the PSU doesn't turn on, most likely the fuse with in it is blown, just replace it (MAKE SURE YOU DRY EVERYTHING AT LEAST 48 HOURS). If it turns on, then something is wrong with the rest of your hardware.

sorry I went off on one...

and I would really checked the psu first. maybe some line is broken or something. I be very very carefull. I am sure if you broke something it would be the psu and motherboard and nothing else.

I read up on watercooling for ages before I touched it.

i am so carefull with everything its carzy.

sorry again

WOW THANKS! As for the instructions just to be 100% im basically just connecting pin14 to the ground right? Time to go find a paper clip!

It's all good that you went off, to you this probably seems stupid but hey you gotta learn somehow. I've overclocked for ages i've just never gone with watercooling because it never seemed like a big deal, but i got these parts for free and got bored and said screw it. Should of read up instead of possibly ruining my $3,000 rig. I'll probably just stick to what i know and use the good old SLK900U until i learn more, get a bigger radiator, better hosing, and a resevoir that doesn't leak (thats partially where my expression for "made a mess" came from). But hey thanks for the help nonetheless.

*Edit*

Powersupply works, damnit :(. I've got a 3 year warranty on everything except the motherboard but how do i explain this one to newegg this is definatley user error :(.

Are you sure that everything is dry ? I've had a watch (ok not computer, but still...) that I put in the water (it was not water proof)...3 years later it started to work

The motherboard is just f-ed, it's the only part of the computer not covered by warranty, i looked it over and on the system fan connector the middle connector is charred black so thats the culprit, u guess a drop of water hit it when i took out the pump. Next time i'm going over the machine with a hair dryer.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help guys, the motherboard is the only thing that went toast and i got her to boot with a new Asus P4C800E Deluxe, i slapped on my thermalright SLK 900U with my tornado. After i get her up and running maybe i can do a proper introduction instead of running for help. I plan to spend alot more time on these boards judging that i'm looking at getting a peltier next time i try the watercooling thing.

But yeah MOBO's gone, and thanks for the help all.

In the future, just make sure everything is dry first. I had a huge catastrophe with a cup of coffee going into my blowhole with a the fan and comp runnin. I pulled the power immediately, and cleaned everything with isopropyl, let it dry, and now it works fine. :)

LOL ive always liked my rigs with that sweet fresh brewed smell.

it still smells like coffee in my room. I fold like a mofo, so when that sucker heats up, i feel like the columbian coffee guy is hiding in my closet. But man that was a mess, let me tell you, rather funny in retrospect, now that everything is working properly. :)
