I'm not touching 40 year old speakers. All I need is a modest surround setup. I'm not looking at Logitech for speakers. Since I am at work, shopping sites are blocked by Websense. Home is where I have to do my research.

Only if I had Audiogon money, lol.
 
Logitech? Are these going to be attached to a PC? Logitech sounds ok, particularly the high end, but you can do better IMO...
 
If you go with HDMI, there are plenty more options available. Using a regular Home Theater receiver with whatever speakers you want/can afford, can give you maximum flexibility on configuration, and opportunity for easy expansion or upgrade in the future.
 
This will be for the television. Amp and a proper surround sound setup, probably 5.1.
