I've been trying to solve my computer's sound problem by cooling the southbridge chip.

Where is this chip though? Could you help please?

Where is it on this board?

Where?

Where? Sorry but there don't seem to be any chips below the pci slots.

Yours is actually south of the memory slots. Most you will probably need is passive cooling, unless you have some serious hardware in your PCI slots.

And this is in video and sound selection because....? :p

well he did state that he was having trouble with his sound, and was hoping to help it by cooling his sb. so i guess that qualifies :)

Aww jigpu, I was gonna do that! hmph! :p

But yeah, if you wanna be lazy also, FrozenCPU carries some southbridge coolers that have an adhesive on them.

Ohh, you have to take the sticker off and clean the glue off before you put the heatsink on. Glue+sticker=not very conductive. Actualy, just taking the sticker off with a bit of lighter fluid on a q-tip might make your sound clear up.

Lighter fluid (being composed of organic solvents) will eat up stuff like glue and gums just like Alcohol will. The only problem with it is that it has additives to cover up the scent, make it burn better, etc, that can remain on a freshly "cleaned" surface, worsening thermal transfer compared to if you used near pure alcohol or acetone.

...and if it sounds weird just cuz ligher fluid is really flamable, just remember that alcohol is too :D

Aah, yes. I am quite familiar with that mobo! :D I just have some white goop holding a light heat sink from an old 3dfx card. It hasnt moved yet i will say, but when I didnt have some form of cooling on it, and was using all 64 hardware sound channels, the sound would crackle out for a minute then crackle back in. But havent had any issues regarding that matter as of yet.
