I'm currently running a Soyo SY-6BA+IV w/ is a Slot 1 BX board. I'm using a slocket w/ my PIII 850 and I have taken advantage of the ability to set the voltage on the slocket. As I've come to find and I'm sure many of you know, you need more than 1.85v sometimes to OC PIII's and probably celerons as well.

I also have an SY-7VCA2 board w/ the Apollo 133a chipset. My two biggest concerns are voltage adjustment and the 133a chipset. I have good memory and there are programs avail. to smooth out the probs. w/ the Apollo chipset but is it worth it? I can only get to 1.85v on the 7VCA2 board.

My main uses for the PC in question would be MP3 playback and gaming but I want at least a gig. Thoughts, ideas, experiences? I'm sure other boards apply so please speak up!

What is the question here? You've got a PIII 850 running at 1037 MHz (122 MHz FSB) on a BX mobo. No VIA mobo can touch a BX for performance: they have; lower memory bandwidth, lower AGP bandwidth, poor IDE performance. The only problem I see is the PCI being at 40.67 MHz. Too bad you can't get the FSB to 124 MHz where the 1/4 PCI divider kicks in to get the PCI down to 31 MHz.

I'm not really sure why you're considering an Apollo Pro 133 board at all. For Intel systems your choice should be i815 or 440BX. Via's Intel boards just can't measure up to the Intel boards. Fortunately Via's AMD boards are somewhat better (although still not as good as those by AMD and Intel).

I can get to 1053 w/ the options of 124/31 or 124/41. The single problem I have right now is w/ Zone Alarm firewall software. It runs at every setting fine except 1053. I've tried both 31 and 41 PCI speeds but nothing helps. If I close zone alarm, I can run BurnP6 until I'm blue in the face.

I thought it was better to go over PCI spec (124/41) as opposed to under spec (124/31). Thanks for the reply's....stayin' w/ the good ol' BX.

i have had less problems under spec, but since i've gone bx i have never had a problem over speck except with certain hds...
