considering the sp-97 is one of the best heatsink's out there currently, is the finish smooth enough from the factory or would lapping signifigantly help
 
Having been meaning to do this for a while I've come to notice this, if you change the heatsink a lot - meaning if you remount it every three or so months (with as5 you're supposed to do this) it would be a good idea to lap the bottom of the heatsink just to get rid of the residue from multiple mounts. Straight from the factory, you'll probably gain 1-2C, but nothing spectacular, though it never hurts :)
