One of the things I loved about the Nintendo DS was that the limited hardware capabilities forced the developers to, not only invent brand new types of games, but delve deeper into humor and storytelling than was done in more traditional AAA games at that time.
I think it sparked a revolution that continues today in games like Shovel Knight, Dead Cells, Meatboy, and... today's topic... Turnip Boy.
Specifically Turnip Boy Evade's taxes (there's already a sequel: Turnip Boy Robs a Bank).
The graphics are very, VERY simple... But the story and gameplay are Maniac Mansion-style hilarious.
There's action, and puzzle-solving, and adventure...
And it is, above all, FUN.
As greedy corporations focus, once again, more on ever-expanding profits than creating quality gameplay experience.... I'm really happy that the DS-era helped to firmly cement a pathway that indie developers could take well into all the future generation of games.
