12am/3am blips have become pretty regular. I hope the parties involved have adequate backups or a plan to move to cloud-based hosting soon; based on what I've gleaned from previous news posts over there it seems to be a bubblegum-and-string, one-man and a server type operation. As much as I hate Amazon/GCP/etc., this is exactly the kind of low-intensity stuff they would excel at, for probably less than the current costs just to colo a 1u...

TL/DR version - search engine robot kept hammering pages that were on the do-not-crawl list, so now they are blocking user-agents of known bots to keep from getting overloaded.
