yeah i got a solver orb ripoff and i started it up and didnt have any thermal grease so the temp skyrocketed. my old heatsink had some sticky tack like stuff and was wondering if that would work as well. i dunno whats going to happen to it at plus 100degres. any suggestions...comments?

The stuff on your old HSF is probably phase change compound, I wouldn't try re-using it, just go to Radio Shack and get some thermal compound - or you could mail order some Artic Silver. If you are going to be tweaking your hardware a supply of thermal compound is essential. You may want to try lapping that HSF - check in the articles, you'll find some guides on how to lap your HSF.

LimeyGreg is right. You are better off not reusing whatever is on the old one. You also don't really want to operate too long without at least some thermal compound, because too much heat will do damage to your chip.
