Well here we are in January and no preslers and no P5WD2-E. I thought for sure Asus would have their 975 board out before the cedarmill and presler CPU's show up at retailers.

Will the Presler's run on the 955 Chipset? I was planning on buying the Presler and upgrading to the 975 Chipset board later.

No doubt. I guess they won't release them til the Preslers are released at this point. As for the Presler's release date, I've now seen everything from the 7th to the 14th to the 16th (<- the official date). If they pop up on e-tailers on the 13th-14th, it will probably just be for ordering over the weekend and will ship on Monday the 16th. In either case, I am ready for one like yesterday.

All Preslers will work in a 955X board with the noted exception of the 955XE (Extreme Edition) which is supposed to require the 975X board, however, it looks like the 955XE works just fine on a 955X chipset mobo if VT is disabled. Of course, anyone dropping $1K on that proc is probably not going to skimp and stick it in an old mobo :)

seriously, i sold my abit as8-intel 640@ 4ghz combo and now am using a pentium 3 866 with 256megs of ram and im DYING!! OMG THIS IS SLOW I WANNA BUY NEW!!!< anyone think that these are gonna sell out quick, or will retailers have enough of them..?

Sell out quick. Everyone and his brother want a peice of the presler. I hope they have not been over hyped. I am really hoping to break 5ghz.

im waiting for one of these boards too - has asus given a release date for the board yet?

i really hope these start shipping soon - iv got 2gb of ddr2 on the way to go in it...im still debating which 65nm cpu to go with... :D

Ahhh no biggy, 975 isn't going to offer much more then 955 will. What we really need now is for PRESLER to come out! because when it does I'm buying one!

can someone tell me definitively if 975x is ACTUALLY going to support conroe? as if it doesnt i really cant see what this chipset offers that 955 doesnt already..... im waiting to buy a mobo and cpu, but if 65nm chips are expensive as iv heard il end up with a 955 chipset mobo and a 6xx cpu :(

I am like 99.9999% sure it will support Conroe (sure enough that I will get one), but I don't know if anyone will be 100% sure until Conroe actually comes out.

Unless you plan on running an XE with VT or something, a 955X will work just fine. I might have a nice P5WD2 Premium for sale (modded or not) as soon as the P5WD2-E hits the shelves...a lot of people probably will :)

well whatever i buy il hold out until the -e premium hits as if i dont get that (depending on its cost) its gotta push the 955x premium down in price..... are the single core 65nm due to come in now then? i thought it was only the dual cores coming in now?? iv got so used to my a64 x2 dual core goodness i dont really wanna go back to single core...but if the 9xx series cost as bad over here as the 8xx do i may have to stay single core after all.

Someone buy that Gigabyte and let us know how well it overclocks lol.

I see the Gigabyte comes with an SLI bridge. Could this mean..............naa probably not.
