I have the corsair reservoir combo and it's standard size but I wanna ensmallen the reservoir somehow. I'm getting a MATX case that is probably not gonna be able to hold the reservoir along with everything else.

I was thinking of cutting a section off in the middle and putting back together somehow. Either with silicone caulk, some kind of glue, even just cutting the top off and putting something to close it on top. The new case doesn't have a window so I IDGAF about how it looks. I'm also using a prestone anti-freeze for the coolant so I don't know if the silicone would leech.

What do yall think?

I would not cut the reservoir. If you don't care about looks then save yourself the hassle, and almost certainly leaks, and mod the case.

Is there a reason you're using anti-freeze for the coolant and not plain distilled water (and adding biocide)?

Welcome!

Which corsair res? What case, exactly?

I mean, you can cut the res and put it back together (carefully), but yikes.... or get a case that will fit it.... or get a res that will fit.

As far as antifreeze, make sure you dilute it for best results. But why not distilled?

XD5 RGB Pump/Reservoir Combo, and the Asus AP201.
I want that case because I wanted something small. I could buy a res but I'm too cheap LOL. Since I already have the pump and it works perfectly, the res is just huge. I wanted to first fit the GPU vertically so I can put the res in front of it but I don't think it would fit even then. As for the antifreeze, I definitely will dilute it.

I don't know how to mod the case and I don't think there is a feasible way to do it. Maybe it's my lack of imagination. I'm using the antifreeze just because I wanna be extra sure that my stuff are not corroding. I looked up copper sulfate but that doesn't go too well with my nickel plated things, and for benzalkonium chloride, it's pretty hard to come by where I live and it doesn't go well with the high pH antifreeze I got. I haven't looked up anything else, but I think those are the most popular broad spectrum biocides. The antifreeze actually would work great since it's a pH of around 10 so that's not quite a biocide but it's probably gonna retard the growth a bunch. Also a drop of detergent would reduce the water tension.

Im sure others will encourage the modding... but, I'd return it and get something more appropriate for the case you have... or return the case and get something that fits the res.

Agreed. After having a leak in a water-cooling system the last thing I'd want to do with any amount of inexperience is mess around with re-attaching cut plastic

Alright I get it I'll see if I can get creative with fitting it into the case. Or if one of my friends has an extra pump laying around. Honestly if push comes to shove, I can put everything back to air cooling like a caveman.

Thanks for all the advice yall!
