I have a blog.

Up until recently, I had no qualms with revealing my full name on my blog. I don't work in the corporate world, I don't write (too) scandalously, and I enjoyed the freedom.

Unfortunately, now more than ever, people are starting to google my real name. I do know most of them are past and present students I TA and teach in University, perhaps some old high school friends, old high school teachers (at least one told me she found my blog via google) and who knows who else.

It started to intimidate me.

It's just really weird when people you know tell you they found your blog in person. You start having to censor yourself and really watch what you say -- even if what you usually say isn't offensive, you begin to second guess yourself.

So I decided to remove my last name from my site -- just to make it slightly harder for people to simply pop in my name into google.

Fine, there wasn't much to change. I have a CV posted on my blog, so I simply removed my name. I also removed my full last name from the copyrights and any posts I may have made.

I'm wondering how long will it take for Google to reflect these changes? I'm still ranked 1-2 in Google and their search catches are in references to changes I've already made -- i.e. from their cache.

Google supposedly crawls each page and reindexes it once per 30 days, but it might be as high as 90 days.

i got a blog too..

sofar theres only like 2-3 people who ever view it , so i dont really worry about what i put on it, and then again. its my opinion of what i put on my blog, so i say what i want. and dont really care about anyone else.

Might want to look at http://www.oreilly.com/pub/h/220 ?? if you havent already .. infact i should do that too.. oneday.. *passes out*

I always find it funny how people are shocked, SHOCKED that they can be found on the internet. Just cause you don't give anyone the URL doesn't mean people can't find you! It's not that hard to find your MySpace!

i always love the stuff that comes up when i google my name, although i never find anything the ME that im looking for

I would just leave your name in. What's it matter if people google your name?

/\Probably does not fully trust everyone he knows will accept his opinion so would like for the most part them to not see it. Anyway don't see how your shocked about this, I google people somewhat often if doing research to get background info, and since your a teacher(?, thought you were still going to school?) students probably want your background. As for google, as said you should be clear to speak freely within a month probably less, just make sure you delete your name everywhere this time. (May I suggest you use a fake name, like well Frodo Baggins, or Frodo Wells)

The only websites that have my full name are financial.

Fortunately I hve a VERY common name so if you googled mine you would go through about 300,000 links before finding me :)

Stop being so full of yourself.
After reading several posts of this nature from you... I wish to say the above.

But welcome to an upcomeing paradox.

I may later edit this post... if I find that really damn quote from my old math teacher that I wrote down from years ago...
