I have a blog.
Up until recently, I had no qualms with revealing my full name on my blog. I don't work in the corporate world, I don't write (too) scandalously, and I enjoyed the freedom.
Unfortunately, now more than ever, people are starting to google my real name. I do know most of them are past and present students I TA and teach in University, perhaps some old high school friends, old high school teachers (at least one told me she found my blog via google) and who knows who else.
It started to intimidate me.
It's just really weird when people you know tell you they found your blog in person. You start having to censor yourself and really watch what you say -- even if what you usually say isn't offensive, you begin to second guess yourself.
So I decided to remove my last name from my site -- just to make it slightly harder for people to simply pop in my name into google.
Fine, there wasn't much to change. I have a CV posted on my blog, so I simply removed my name. I also removed my full last name from the copyrights and any posts I may have made.
I'm wondering how long will it take for Google to reflect these changes? I'm still ranked 1-2 in Google and their search catches are in references to changes I've already made -- i.e. from their cache.
