I'm using XP Pro SP2 on: A64 3700+ / 1GB DDR400 / 6800GT. I have all windows updates to date.

I have a couple of strange problems with windows:

More than half of the time dragging and dropping doesn't work. This includes files, column widths, start menu entries, dragging tabs in FF, dragging favicons in FF, dragging FF bookmarks and some other things I can't recall. It does NOT include window edges, dragging to select text or dragging a selection box. It is almost as though something is trying to steal focus constantly - when I try and drag a desktop icon the focus immediately reverts to FF. The thing is I have tried closing all programs but it still does the same thing.

Dragging & dropping is enabled. I have tried adding these keys to my registry but they were already there. I have also tried running these commands:

regsvr32 ole32
regsvr32 /i shell32

I can't figure out at what times it refuses to drag & drop or in what circumstances. I have tried using a different mouse, I have also tried disabling the logitech setpoint software.

The other problem is that most of the time using printscreen and alt printscreen to take screen captures does nothing. I have absolutely no idea why this happens either. Using a screen capture program works fine.

Can anyone help? The drag and drop thing is incredibly annoying.

If you can't suggest anything, do you know of any other forums I can ask on?

Expand the following branch in the registry...

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT | Directory | shell

Highlight the shell sub-key in the LH pane. The (Default) String Name should have a Value data of none. To modify the value, right click (Default) and select Modify | In the Edit String dialog that opens, type none into the Value data field. It should look like it does in this pic...

Thanks for the response. I went to that key as you said and the value was already set to none.
