Hello Guys

I’m having some trouble with my firewire card.

I've connected a Sony (DCR) TRV255E camera to the firewire card.

(I've also tried a Sony miniDV DCR-HC22E & a JVC MiniDV: GR-DVL 150 E, all with the same results)

I saved some footage (about 20 mins) with the settings; DV-AVI (25mbps), 720x576 pixels, 25 frames per second, the best quality basically. (I've also tried low/medium and high quality)

The footage on the camera in the viewfinder in playback was excellent as you would expect, the picture on the preview screen on the PC very was jittery on download and playback. I saved the file and watched it back through an editor and through Windows Media Player, the picture was crisp but the jittery stuff stayed. It was like it would freeze for a while then continue and by doing this it chewed up the audio, so all you could hear was stuttering conversation.

I understand that some applications show a preview of the movie, in its lowest settings, e.g. Microsoft Movie Maker it's a 320x240 low res, 15 fps preview. But surley this does not explain why the stream would be so poor on download and so poor on playback. There must be something interfering with the stream.

Even the USB 2.0 footage downloaded on my friends PC was a hell of a lot smoother than this. (even though the quality was very blocky and dark).

I need the footage to be on my PC in good quality as I need to edit it. Plus it makes a mockery out of having a digital camera if you can’t get digital quality footage.

I personally feel it has something to do with the IRQ’s. So here is a list in Device Manager. As you can see PCI 17, is shared by the Firewire and my network card for my internet connection, FA311.

Any suggestions?
