I just ordered a XP2600-m, NF7-S, and OCZ PC3700EB. I want to do some pretty good overclocking with this rig, something like 220-230fsb. I was wondering what should I get to cool my XP2600-m and NF7-S.

Right now im looking at SP-97, but it looks like the XP-120 will be coming out within the next 2 weeks. On the TR site it says its for P4 and A64? Are they making a XP version of this or should I just go ahead and get the SP-97?

And i'm pretty confused about how I should cool my NF7-S if I wanna get around 220-230mhz fsb. Some people say just use stock hsf and reapply with AS5. Should I get a new NB and SB cooler, like the vantec iceberg4, what do u guys reccommend? Also do I need to cool my mosfets? If I do, do I just need to cool the 6 next to the cpu socket?

BTW my case has good airflow and its in the basement, so ambient temps are lower than usual.

I own the Delta HHE... and my opinion is that Delta made this fan just for the Thermalright HS's b/c they work so well together. This fan isn't very loud to begin with, and if you have a fan controller you can turn it down until you can barely hear it. If you're looking to save some money, you could get an slk w/ a Delta HHE and still be under the price of a SP-97

My brother just got the mosfet HS's and he said they almost totally stopped the fluctuation is his rails and vcore, so it does help when you're oc'ing b/c your cpu is sensitive to voltage fluctuations. He only put them on the 6 by his cpu, so you should be fine with those.

A new northbridge HS would be recommended as well, b/c the NF7-S HSF's tend to die unexpectedly and fry the northbridge. Zach has the Thermalright NB-1, although I'm not sure if it would fit w/ a Thermalright HS on as well.

Where you can get a cheap SLK-947U. Because I only found the cheapest one at www.svc.com is $36 while SP-97 is $43. Also, svc got Delta fan but the spec a little dif from sidewinder.com. Should i get that one? Please let me know cuz I'll try to pick those up tomorrow.
HAPPY I-D day :)

Is there that much of a difference between SP-97, SLK-947U, and SLK-900A?

The relative rankings in this table indicate the difference, in degrees Centigrade, among the CPU cooling options tested. For example, at 100 watts, the difference between Swiftech's MCX462 and the Millennium Glaciator is three degrees C; at 50 watts, 1 ½ C, and so on. Closely ranked heatsinks may, in fact, show little or no difference, or even reverse positions, when compared in a specific system and especially at heat loadings of 50 watts or less.

Thermalright SLK900: 0.22

Thermalright SP-97: 0.23

Thermalright SLK800: 0.23

Thermalright SLK-800U: 0.23

Thermalright SLK-948U: 0.25

Thermalright SK7: 0.25

So, in short.... there isn't that much of a difference between the HS's, especially when you have a low wattage AMD. So go with what you want.

The Delta HHE from Sidewinder is a little different in that it's quite a bit quieter than most of the Deltas. The EHE is much louder ( it does cool better, but I prefer to keep my hearing :D ), if that's the one SVC carries.

Thanks a lot mtb856, great post. I'll go with the SLK900A for 20 bucks less.

keep in mind that the slk900a doesnt use the motherboard mounting holes. so if you go to lans regularly you might be better of with the slk948u
