I have a Vantec 7040 (as you can see below), and I was wondering if I could go to a better hs/f without emptying my wallet. I have heard that some of you like Thermaltake. What would you guys recemmend? Right now my system is running about 50C on the cpu, I would like to drop that below 45C.

Stay away from Socket A Thermaltakes aka Thermalwrongs.

All copper Thermalrights are the best.

c627627, would you say that heatsink(the one that you mentioned) is better than the Vantec that I have?

with the heatsink that you mentioned, correct me if im wrong, i can take the fan off of my heatsink and put it on the thermaltake, correct. it says that it made for TMD fans. And what is the difference between the slk700 and the 900 besides $20?

The performance is so similar that I wouldn't spend extra $20.

Tests were done with both in the AMD section that prove this.

Don't forget:
Thermaltake bad
Thermalright good.

As for the Vantec, Thermalright is better, but I would leave things as they are at 2250 on your system if I were you.

2500+ mobile would give you 2.5 GHz and that would be a real improvement, not your current CPU + any heatsink. Is it worth wasting time to sell the old CPU and buy the new, it's up to you.

Athlon 64s are about 25% faster than Athlon XPs at same GHz on average.

Save up for an affordable Athlon 64 mobo-CPU combo, if you want a REAL jump in performance.

I have a mobile running at 2.4 GHz that I upgraded from 2100+ B. I had to do it because I needed an extra CPU but it wouldn't have been worth it otherwise.

I'll stay with my system this year, maybe even next (unless DVD burning pushes me to get a 64.)

your the s***t, thanks for being honest. I have had my current system for less than a year, and I dont game on my PC, thats why I bought the X-Box. But, like the rest of us I like to see what my system can do. I really didnt know that much about mobiles until I started talking to you today. Ill look into that some more. I'm just wanting to tweak out what I have until I decide to sell it. I am going to look into that heatsink though.(it wouldnt hurt anything to drop it a couple of degrees, and hell, its onnly money:). Take care and we'll talk soon. Ill be talking about memory before you know it.
