Swap video cards?

I happen to have a brand new Radeon 9200 w/128mb ddr laying around.

Should I swap the old Visiontek Geforce 3 w/64ddr out for it?

sell both of them and get a ti4200 but anyway what kind of geforce 3 is it? Ti 200, 500

radeon 9200 has 250 core 400 mem
geforce 3 has 200 core 460 mem
geforce 3 ti 500 has 240 core 500 mem

I guess which overclocks higher

I've been trying ot find a chart that lists the performance comparison.

I'm not sure that the 9200 out performs the GF3. Is the 9200 even able to do DX 9+?

Yeah the GF3TI500 is alittle better by a small amount then the 9200.

The 8500 and Ti500 are about equals. That means the 9200 and the Ti500 are about equals as well. I'd take the 9200 because it has more RAM. 128MB is usefull in many games.

That does *NOT* make the 9200 and ti500 equal. The 9200 is the same thing as the 9000, and the 8500 and 9100 are the same. The 8500 has twice as many texture units per pipe, making it a good deal faster than a 9000pro(9200PRO). The TI500 has 50% more TMU than the 9200. Go with it.

Ehem, your wrong. The 8500 is not faster then the 9000 pro or 9200 pro. They are about 5%(which i dont call a great deal, as you said) within each other.They both win and lose some, neither is faster. And 9100s have lower clocks then 8500s, and that clock lowerage, is enough to make it a good deal slower then the 9200 pro. The TMUs have little to no effect at all kiddo. Thats why NONE of ATI's new cards even have more then 1 TMU per pipe.

The 9000 and 9200 standard however are a little bit slower then the ti500. If you want better IQ, use the 9200, if you want better gaming performance, use the GF3 TI500.

The 8500 may have twice an many pipes, the the R9200 core is enhanced, and hase superior texture and shader units, so although it has 4 fewer pipes, performance is REAL close (within about 5%)

The R9200 is a DX8.1 card
The GF3Ti500 is a DX8.0 card

Performance will be basically the same, +- a few fps in either direction....

AF is free on the R9200, so w/ a little eye candy, the R9200 will be faster,

FSAA takes a smaller hit on the Ti500

It's pretty much a toss-up, I'd probably go w/ the R9200 b/c of the extra memory

NO NO NO. A 9200 is equal to a 9000 non pro, which is ALOT SLOWER then a TI500. A 9200 PRO is about equal, NOT A REGULAR 9200.

THE 9200 IS 250/400 clocks, a 9200 pro is 275/550.
The TI500 would woop a 9200 non pro.

OK, that was pretty rude. But for your info, I recieved 2 of them free of charge. No, I could not choose a different card.

It seems from the discussion here that it's tit-4-tat. I do know that my GF3, which for the record was the top of the line when I got it. It runs all tests in 3d marks 2003.

A friend of mine has an older Radeon which will not even run most of the tests. Also, I noticed on the box of the 9200 it does say DX 9 somthing or other which makes me think it is capable.

The 9200 nor the GF3 is direct X 9 capable. You cannot run all tests in 3Dmark 03. In 03, after the trolls, there is a nature test for DX9 cards that you obviously dont know about. Your friend probably has a radeon 7500 or lower, which is DX7 or lower. Your GF3 is a DX8 card.

I'll have to check the box out tonight. On the 9200 it does mention DX 9.0 I just don't remember exactly what it says.

Maybe I'll rerun test, flip cards and run again to see who scores better.

gf3 will score better then 9200 no doubt. 9200/9000 pro would score better then ti500 though.
